Asgard ships will not survive an atom bomb...

On other thread the 4 asgard neutrino powing their ships has a net power output of 4 terajoules per second...or 0.96 kiloton per second..

atom bombs explodes only in a fraction of a second... so thermodynamically the maximum power that the shield can hold is equal only to the power output of the 4 generators that the shield is operation at 100% efficiency and no other systems using power.

even a 10 ton of tnt that explodeds in 1/100 sec would penetrate the asgard shield.

Um, yea. They definately stopped using the neutrino ion generators when they built the Oniell class.

also if you want to fire a 1 Megaton weapon pulse..you need to recharge the weapons by 1000 seconds..while shield and propulsion is off.

This is one of those occasions where they don't think it through before putting it in the episode.

They try to talk about power outputs... without mentionning any unit of time, or using an unit that incorporates time.

There's two things we can do, though.

First, pretend that he was going to mention, or was thinking about milliseconds, instead of seconds.

Secondly, consider the long scale "billion" term, the one that's 3 orders of magnitude above the short scale one. Billion on the long scale means e12.
Which means e15 joules per generator.

Add milliseconds instead of seconds, and that's three more orders of magnitude, and thus e18 joules per second.

That would still be too short to engage ha'taks with several gigatons worth of shielding, but at least, the numbers would make more sense.

But honestly, it's just a comment you may not really think about too much.

How do we know that the energy put into a shield is directly equal to the amount of energy it can block? It is of course proportional, but I doubt it's one to one. Besides, I kind of doubt that your assumption is correct, based on:

In the serpent's lair the USAF fires two naquadah enhanced nuclear warheads at the ha'taks. It does not penetrate the shields.

In camelot, the Ori ships come through the supergate. In the following battle, their weapons cut through ha'tak shields like butter, eliminating them in 1-2 hits. The Asgard ship that was present, along with the 304s, which use Asgard shields I remind you, was able to take several hits (the 304s could only take two before they lost their shields).

With that in mind, I think the Asgard shields can easily take a nuke.

We've seen Hat'tak take naqudah enhanced nukes...

              Spoiler:

Precisely what I was saying. If ha'taks can take that, but not an Ori weapon hit, while an asgard ship can take several, then a nuke should be easy.

Yep season 2 first episode, Earth shoots two enhanced nukes of at least 1,000 megaton yield at Apophis and Klorel's Hatak's. Both nukes hit the shields rather harmlessly. Apophis does show notable nervousness when it looks like Klorel won't raise the shields so without them I'm sure it would have done major damage.

It makes no sense that we assume it that time units in milliseconds...The writers should tell it on Watts.

This was the writers fault not consulting someone who is an expert..

And as those in the Serpent's Lair the Bombs did not detonate. They impacted only to the shield prior to detonation.

Also about the asgard shield..Did the Death Glider manage to depleat the shield of the Prometheus back on the Ep. "Prometheus Unbound"?

Whatever they did they were completely useless. Thank god SG-1 happened to be in a position to save the day.

Also there were shield battery or Capacitors to shielding system of the ships...

In order to stop a 10 Megaton Nuclear Explosion...The shield need to be recharged for more than 10,000 sec using the same power source..

The blasts were hardly "harmless" each blast shook those ships like crazy.

                            They detonated.
It was clearly stated in the episode that EM radiation "from the nuclear blasts" was screwing with their sattelite communication systems.

The power output of the generators have no DIRECT bearing on the shield strength, this is a FACT. The shields are powered from buffers which is why they can be at x% shields, if they got power directly from the generators they would always have 100% shield unless the generator got destroyed (which is why Atlantis has such a powerful shield, it has no buffer it just draw directly from the ZPM).
It is also why a ZPM powered ship can go to 0% shields without the ZPM emptying.

They recharge this buffers when they are out of combat but it can take ALOT of time to recharge a buffer to 100% depending on generators and buffer size.
