    MGM exec says "watch Stargate"

    http://www.variety.com/article/VR111...ryid=1344&cs=1

    excerpt from MIPCOM article:

MGM's chief operating officer Rick Sands turned to his fellow panelist, Joost CEO Fredrik de Wahl, and said, "You, sir, are just a pipe."

Bottom line for Sands is that these folks with their pumped-up Powerpoint presentations need to pay for the content they stream.

And, he added, they need to stop waxing on about how great user-generated content is.

"There is a limit to the amount of this crap you can watch. I want you to watch 'Stargate,' " Sands said unapologetically.

Like the other Hollywood studios, MGM's business model hinges on getting viewers to watch its 4,000 movies and 10,000 hours of TV series.

As an exec who came out of the hardnosed Harvey Weinstein school of content, Sands is adamant that finding anything good in the real world, let alone the virtual content world, is no easy task.

Ha, ha, he, he. This one bowled me over, I was laughing so hard. Good to see the MGM brass sticking up for my show.

"User-generated content" is a buzzword for the content of media sites like YouTube.

He's not "sticking up" for the show. He's calling fanvids crap because they don't make him any money.

Well, I'll watch Stargate if you can convince the Sci-fi channel to stop those terrible, terrible mid season breaks. And then I'm in like Flynn.

Now this is a surprise. Wonder what else MGM might pull this time.
To be honest, fan support is one of the biggest things. And media knows this.
Just the concept some take is so literal they go overboard. Sure a show needs money, and publishing to run, but you can do only so much. At least a "thanks" would have been nice. Not a stab in the back. jeez mgm. Shame on you.
