    Jaffa Weaponry?

How come the Jaffa abandoned their previous staff weapons, which could blow massive chunks off their enemies like minicannons (see Stargate movie and first half of Season One) for their puny ones that now can't even kill a skinny guy in three shots (see episode Babylon where the Colonel gets hit, and countless other episodes)?

How come the Jaffa abandoned their armor that was impenetrable to bullets and thus made them nearly invincible (see episode Children of the Gods) for their now puny armor that allows them to get killed no matter where hit (see any newer episode)?

How come the Jaffa abandoned their intimidating head-gear, which also signified their servitude to a particular god, that looked so cool and inhuman when walking around commanding people about? Sure, it's not good in battles, but we haven't seen it since Season Four, not even when guards are just standing there?

    Budget cuts?

i think the writers wanted it to be over time that the goa,uld became less and less powerful so this was sort of a way which u didnt notice much that over time they became worse and worse

      Better guns, not poorer armor.
      Sodan staffs are more portable.

Those staff weapons and smaller and more portable, and that usually means less powerful. Think handgun - Machine gun or laptop - desktop computer.

They didn't. The SG teams just started using armor piercing rounds instead of the regular kind.

Because they are too bulky. Watch the episodes where the Jaffa walk around wearing those, I dont' think the actors can see out of those. Imagine 50 some Jaffa running down a hill in those helmets...

SG teames started using armor piercing bullets and Zat guns to undermine Jaffa armor.

The Sodan used smaller, less powerful staffs designed for mobility and speed since they raided convoys instead of attacking military positions.

The helmets were for honor guard only, throughout the series. We kiilled all those guys already.

Ultimately, its less a matter of the gear worn by the Jaffa but rather ten years of figuring out EXACTLY how to attack them effectively. Early in the series we had no idea what they were using so we couldn't counter it.

          Example: "The Nox":
O'Neil and Co. pump some bullets into Aphophis's personal sheild and just kind of go "Aw, hell". Later in the episode they learned to use low-kinetic projectiles like arrows, a tactic they could revisit for the rest of the series. Goa'uld personal sheilds went from "Oh no, we can't shoot him!" to "Hey, anybody got a rock I can borrow?"

So its more of tactical issue than a power issue.

Perhaps this one is due to better armoring we have been giving our troops in the SGC program. They still take 'chunks' out of trees and such.

IMO those head gears were for honor guards/direct servants, not the rank and file jaffa of said gou'ald.. So not everyone gets them.

Those staff weapons and smaller and more portable, and that usually means less powerful.
That is also true... most of the staff weapons from the film were a good 7 feet or so, while most of those from the series are 5 and a half feet or so..

The SGC teams now wear a Amour witch can take a direct Staff weapon blast. Can't quote what ep it was said. Let me look into it

For Wraith, hunger burns like a fire.

Tell me, Sheppard, if you found yourself burning alive, would you settle for just one drop of water ...

....... or would you take more?

VSHARMA: It was "Heroes, Part 1" that they revealed the new armor.

'Heroes' it was in both part one that we saw it tested in the SGC and later field tested. It should have been standard issue for the rest of seven, or at least season 8 up.

It was mentioned in "Heroes" back in season 7. It saved Jack.

Yup, a ceramic insert into a standard vest that dissipates the energy and heat more effectively than standard armor, which a staff blast will just melt and go through.
That's the plan?!? That's the plan. That plan sucks!

I don't think the staff weapons are less powerful, just shorter. The power source is a small vial of liquid naquadah and it's probably the same size in the Sodan staffs as it is in the older ones. The length of the weapon has nothing to do with how deadly it is since it was only really that long to make it look more intimidating to primitive cultures.

The MP5 was kinda ****ty against Jaffa armor, but these new P90 armor piercing submachine guns (which are illlegal for citizens to own in the US, and for a reason) can rip through 10cm of kevlar at 50 meters range

It was also explained in an episode that the SGC uses new composite body armor capable of withstanding staff blasts.

not that its ever been metioned i don't think. they mentioned a trinium dart once though. considering how much ammo they go through, it could add up fast. i figure it's harder to acquire trinium than naquadah, so it'd probably be used up almost solely in ship construction.
