The Power Source for the 8th Cheveron

As most know one requires a ZPM to dial Atlantis, or to dial Earth from Atlantis. But remember the episode "The 5th Race" when the Ancients knowledge allowed Jack to build that power device that was using the staff weapons power source, then connected it to the power grid so the Stargate could dial the 8th cheveron, if it could be used to go all the way to the Ida galaxy, then couldnt they use the power device to dial Atlantis.

Then, all they would have to do is get a couple of staff weapons to go to Atlantis on a dialy basis.

According to my understanding, the futher you dial, the more power you need. Ida galaxy is closer than Pegasus, therefore, the Jack's power device might not work. And isn't it dead btw?

If it's true, it would mean that the SG-1 replicators infested at least three different galaxies.

After 'The Fifth Race' they couldn`t figure out how to make the device work again.
In S3's 'Point of View', our Carter and the alternate Dr. Sam Carter figure out how to make it work again and take it through to Dr. Carter's universe in order to use it to contact the Asgard.
As far as we know, the device was left behind in that alternate universe.

As the device has not been mentioned since S3, I think it is safe to assume that it was either left behind or we haven`t found a way to make it completely reusable.

the device from point of view, was that the one from fifth race or was that another one they'd built? if it was the same one, we didn't see them bring it back to our universe with them, so it should still be there. if it was a second one, then they should be able to build another one. the sams made a breakthrough when our sam figured out some ratio relating to decay rate or something which she learned from learning how to make naquadah generators. unless they didn't bother to take it apart and figure out how jack made it in the first place, they should have the plans and the know-how now to make another. the trick though is how far away ida is as compared to pegasus. the device was designed to power a connection to ida. if pegasus is way farther away, it won't work to dial to atlantis. with the intergalactic bridge available though, the device becomes unnecessary unless you need a one shot dial in case of emergency. the writers probably just forgot about it hehe. and if anyone asks, they'll probably say oh yeah they left it in the alternate universe. or...just had a thought, maybe that was like some kinda precursor to coming up with a ZPM? it was about the same size and generated massive amounts of energy. the difference being the ZPM lasts a whole lot longer and can produce more power. size and shapewise, they are similar though.

a similar thred has been done before ..i think that the device built in the fith race was a single use zpm as it does use vacume energy ..to dail further im guessing that they will use the super gate built by the ori i supose that will have enough power to get you any where in the universe

there was the ep where an AU carter and Kowalski came through the quantum mirror and together both carters made another one for the AU were the go'ald
were attacking, so they had to get to the Asgard, but anyway, they could build another one since carter has build another one from scratch, granted with with AU carters help, but surely she would have made notes

I have always had a feeling that they left it behind. WHY would they do that? Isn't the SGC nuts about OBTAINING technology and not giving it away? Plus, they can't use that device to dial Atlantis,

add to that the fact that Earth now has Asgard power generator technology, they can probably just use them to dial Atlantis since the Asgard power generators have a simmilar power output to that of a ZPM.

why do we need a device like that now we already have technology that canlet us dial atlantis like a zpm and the mid way station and earths ships

any type of power source can be used to dial a gate no matter if its from the milkyway or ida or pegasus, along as they get there then theres no complications in getting there in the first place

How did you make that assumption? The only power source we saw for it was some weapons-grade liquid naquadah.

No, they figured out how to recharge the old one and then left it behind in the AU.

Accually in an episode in season three when Kawalskai and Carter come through from an alternate reality, the carters got it to work again. That one was proberbly left in the alternate reality though.
