View Full Version : Would you join the Atlantis expedition?

I was curious to know if Atlantis was real would many people join the expedition even knowing what was out there. I for one would definitely join the expedition if offered but i wonder how many people would also. This is not a question of wheather or not its possible but purly a hypothetical discussion of if it was would you join it :wraithanime11: :vortex04:

This is a difficult question. Not only are you placing yourself on essentially a front for a very dangerous war, but you are cutting yourself off from family, friends, and possibly wives, husbands and so forth. Sure you can send messages home, maybe stop by for a little while on Earth. However, your buddies can never come see you, and you will be gone for at least a few years.
I would like to say that I would go, but it would probably only be with the military. Taking the fight to the wraith and asurans seems like a worthwhile endeavor.

in a heartbeat I would go. While it may be hard to say goodbye to my friends and family, I could never pass up the chance for Atlantis

Absolutely. It would be hard to say good bye, but travelling does have it's advantages :P

No way for me. I guess it depends on people's personality.
Before they left for the expedition, they did not know how long Atlantis's life support would last. They didn't know the city was submerged, what if there were leaks and they'd all soon be drowned. What if there were large numbers of hostiles that the MALP did not detect. Just no way. My life is too good to risk it in such a way.
Even if I did know whats out there, its still a more dangerous location than Earth, so no.
But hey, everyone has a role. I'd be more like the scientists back in Area 51, who have things come to them, instead of going TO them :)

Let's see...
I don't have a girlfriend. I don't have that many friends. I do have a small family I would have to miss for a few years, possibly longer.
I'm always up for new discoveries and adventures... So, what are we waiting for? Let's go!

purely hypothetical? if so, then i guess i could be anything. as a cook or janitor or nurse or something i'd go, or totally hypothetical and call myself a pilot or some such. yeah, sure.
but as i am now? hmm, don't really see much of a need for film students over there, though it would be a great place to film doco's and horror films! one shot of the wraith and everyone would be going on about the great costume!
maybe i could team up with PrimatesForever and film his/her music videos! *insert popular music lingo here*

Same here. While i might not have a GF or SO, i do want one some day, and i spend a lot of my freetime gaming (rpgs)... so unless i was able to set up a gaming group on atlantis, i would not go.

It depends on the "when".
I'm not sure if I would go as one of the first people, never knowing if a return is possible. But I guess I would join the expedition when there is a chance for a return. Because I'd love to see the wonders of Atlantis and explore the city.

If I were single and I could contribute in a meaningful way, then I'd love to go to Atlantis. It would be an incredible adventure in another galaxy. Dangerous but worth it.

In a heartbeat.
Heck i'd sign up for a onewaytrip outside of our solarsystem, the possible rewards (knowledge, contact with new species etc) outweighs the downsides.

I would definitely go. I'd experience things people can only dream of and possibly make a huge difference too if I stumble upon something that turns the tide of the war. Also, I can ogle Lorne and John all day :D.

I am rather unfortunate in that my work has always consumed me and has always mattered more to me than anything else. I would join the expedition in a heartbeat if I thought it would aid the expedition, though I doubt I'd have gone on the first wave. I'd more likely be a 302 pilot than a Marine in the SG universe.

I would first think about it. Of course it's a lifetime oppertunity, but you know that there's a change never get back home. But atlantis has alwasy been fascinating, so I would go. If I was to be askes on the expedition on the second group, with the knowledge of the Wraith and that it's possible to go back to earth with the daedalus. I still would be in. Because there's is so much to learn from the Ancients and to protect earth from the Wraith.

No disrespect intended, but i find that though condencending. Not everyone goes "OHHH atlantis" just cause it is... not everyone is for the betterment of EVERYONE, heck most imo are not..
Also, there are those who would not be willing to go cause of reliugios reasons, not to mention moral ones (like do we have the right to mess in all those space cultures affairs etc)..

And then of course we have the people like me, who would rather not go to a distant galaxy just to die in some horrible and bizarre way. :S
I'm an English teacher, not military or a scientist. I have no real great passion to kill aliens or discover a new energy source. It's just not my thing.
If I went to Atlantis I would have nothing to do but wait around until I was killed off like every other minor character on the show. Heck, sometimes the major characters aren't safe!
I would much rather stay at home and teach, which is what I want to do, hence why I became a teacher. Yes, you can die being a teacher, but at least I'll have died doing something I love and being useful - not the case on Atlantis.

you havent been yet?!?!?!?!? its alright i suppose, if you don't like water, gray or crystals you're kind of sc***ed, and i haven't found one single toilet (did the ancients beam 'it' straight out of their bodies? or are 'all' the toilets in some, as yet unexplored section of the city?)
if you like impending peril on a weekly basis, and no facilities...............its all good:D

As a scientist, yeah. But I don't ever want to see a wraith in real life lol. Plus remember there are a ton of things that can go wrong, we saw three people die from exploding tumors just because they were snooping around and touched the wrong thing.
