    The next James Bond

I figure that what with lasers and vanishing cars Bond qualifies as SF.

According to friday's "WENN" news on imdb.com Dougray Scott has been cast as the next Bond. The article follows:

British actor Dougray Scott has reportedly beaten off competition from actors, Eric Bana, Ioan Gruffud and Clive Owen to replace Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. The To Kill A King hunk, 38, clinched the role after discussions with Bond producer Barbara Broccoli and will be the seventh actor to appear as the sexy British agent. He will make his first appearance in the 23rd Bond movie after Eon Productions decided they wanted to return to a more brooding Bond in the mould of fellow Scot Sean Connery, reports British newspaper the Sunday Mirror. A movie insider says, "Producers have been eager to take Bond back to the broody and sexy figure that Sean was so brilliant at. Obviously it's not possible for Sean to return at his age, so they have been looking for a younger actor with similar characteristics. Since then Barbara and Dougray have been in talks - and she believes he will be the perfect new 007 for the 21st Century." Brosnan announced two months ago that he would not be starring as Bond again, saying, "That's it. I've said all I've got to say on the world of James Bond."
A good picture of the would be 007 can be found here:

So many actor's have been named in the quest for the next Bond that I tend to be very sceptical each time another one is named. This one does have a few things going for him. Most importantly he is not especially famous. I've always been certain that they would not hire anyone that had already "made it" in Hollywood. Signing such actors as Hugh Jackman or Eric Bana to multi picture deals is nigh on impossible.

He also seems to look right for the part. Browsing trough his filmography I realized that I've seen a few things that he's been in, but clearly he hasn't made much of an impression.

The good part in that report though is that the producers want to take Bond back to his roots and away from the 'explosion fest of the week' syndrome.

Hmm. The guy who played Ambrose in MI:2. Workable. Having said that, for me Brosnan WAS Bond. If a certain 13 year old hadn't walked out of a cinema after watching Goldeneye with his best mate thinking 'That was wicked' then for me the Bond series would have just faded into cinema history and I'd have never really become a big fan of the Bond series. OK, I'd seen a few Bond films before that cinema visit back in '95 but I doubt I'd have made that much time for the series otherwise.

Good luck to Dougray Scott if he gets the part, but it will be very wierd to not see Brosnan as Bond on the big screen again.

The said that he would be Bond in the 23rd movie, but the last one was the 20th so who is going to play Bond in 21 and 22?

Ioan Gruffudd is much cuter by the way.
It’s the show that doesn’t end, it goes on and on my friends, some people started watching not knowing what it was, but they will be watching forever just because it’s the show that doesn’t end…..

Not sure if the guy has what it takes for the role, but then again going with a relative unknown for the role is a smart thing to do.

My first choice at the moment would be Eric Bana, he´s got everything it takes to make a good bond.

Aside from the 20 "official" Bond movies there have also been made two other Bond movies. Casino Royale and Never Say Never Again. I don't count either as "Bond" but that article clearly does.

Edit: Also Sean Connory is Bond. The others may have played Bond but only Connory was Bond.

I spose they'll keep making these "Bond" flics as long as they continue to make money. To me, though, this series jumped a whole school of sharks long, long ago.

O'Neill: Check. Carter: Internal Dampeners? O'Neill: Cool!, and Check. Carter: Engine?
O'Neill: All Check. O'Neill: Phasers? Carter: Sorry Sir.

I liked every Brosnan Bond until the one with the invisible car happened. I can remember the entire plots of Goldeneye, TND and TWiNE, but I can remember nothing about the most recent one except that Pierce had a not very dishy beard for a bit and there was a stupid invisible car. And Halle Berry and some ice. Still, that's (for me) only one bad ones to three good in recent years. I'd like to see Brosanan as Bond once more.

All of the recent ones had to do with a massive laser, and nothing else.

                          I hate the recent ones.

The old school ones are so much better in my opinion.

I guess when it comes to Bond, I'm a Sean Connery person. I haven't enjoyed a Bond film since "Never Say Never Again". I couldn't stand Roger Moore's Bond. Wasn't interested in Timothy Daulton, and I will say that Brosnan was better, but I still didn't care for his version of Bond when it comes right down to it.

I've always been a Connery fan and was a firm beleiver that Adrian Paul would have played the part well, but we'll never get to see him in the James Bond mantel. He has the same strong physical characteristics that made Sean populr (they're called good looks), he has great physical ability so there's no question you would not believe he is trained to kill and handle him well in situations such fighting and bedroom antics
