If they complete Merlin's weapon and send it through the supergate, is it a one time shot? What I mean is, once the ship gets there, and they turn around and come back, what stops them from using the machine on the ancients?

Agrees. But unfortunatly we don't know exactly what it does, but however it works it's be stupid to not make it have some sort of failsafe.

It has to be like a bomb or grenade (without the explosion). The gem is probably destroyed in its use. Daniel isn't stupid, he wouldn't send an "Ascended Beings Killing Device" into the Ori's hands. Plus if it could just be switched off, I don't think a 10min. victory would have been worth giving supergate control back the the Ori.
