View Full Version : "The Ancients moved on from our region of space long ago..."

According to one of the Asgard that Jack talks to in "The Fifth Race", "The Ancients moved on from their region of space long ago".
This means that they were once there and not just on a visit, which explains, among other things, why the Asgard had at least one Stargate even though their nifty little hyperdrives can take them across the universe in mere instances.
I think it sounds like they stayed there for quite some time. This might've been how the alliance first came to be. The Ancients met the Asgard (or possibly the Furlings first followed by the Asgard) first and struck up an Alliance of Friendship and later included the Nox when they encountered them in the Milky Way.
This also explains why the Asgard are so protective of the Milky Way. The Asgard and the Ancients met millions of years ago before the Ancients ever reached the Milky Way and are very old friends, which is why the Asgard took over as protectors of the Milky Way after the Ancient had to leave due to the plague.

I like that theory, it gives a good reason of why the Asgard still have a presence in this galaxy even though they don't live in it. Another question would be do the Asgard know of other galaxies that have human life in it. Green for you.

think another question is if they were all good friends why didn't the Asgard remember where the Ancients went, or even try to look for the city if they knew it existed

Perhaps they didn't consider it their right to occupy Atlantis? Remember, the Ancients were hoping the city would be occupied by their kind in the future (they consider us their kind).

then you would think they would of told us about where it was instead of us dying in the process to find it

I doubt they even knew where to look for Atlantis anyway. Also, why would the Ancients want to live in the Asgard galaxy? That would normally be considred an intrusion since the Ancients usually came to galaxies without any life in them and set them up, but I guess to the Asgard, the more the merrier! Are there any Ancient outposts there? I'll bet if there are, they were taken over by the replicators/destroyed.

What if the Ancients came to Ida first, and started life there, leading to the Asgard, then came to the Milky Way started life again, creating the Nox & Furlings, and when they recreated life for the 2nd time in the MW we were created?
Or is that too complicated?

Because the Ancients probably didn't find the Pegasus Galaxy right away. They were explorers. They explored. And then they found Pegasus and Lantea.
After all, the information in the Ancients repository in "Lost City" must have been updated after the Ancients returned (or, well, after they found Pegasus and settled down there) as it had Atlantis' gate address.
The Ancients and the Asgard probably lost touch. Just because they were once friends doesn't mean they have to stay really good friends forever.
What if the Ancients came to Ida first, and started life there, leading to the Asgard, then came to the Milky Way started life again, creating the Nox & Furlings, and when they recreated life for the 2nd time in the MW we were created?

Because it would be stupid to think that all life in the universe came from one race.

Interesting. I interpreted the Asgard saying that as meaning that the Ancients are gone, that they have all ascended long ago, thereby leaving "this region of space" behind for another plane of existence. I didn't relate it to a physical description of what parts of the universe they inhabited at any given time.

A lot of them (if not the majority of them) just died. Of is that honoring their memory by only speaking of those who Ascended?
"Region of space" is not the same as "our plane of existence".

thats true i guess but still, i think theyd always have a map of where they were going but your right.
But you think they might of not of been snobs and rung home to their friend the Asgard and let them know they're safe and didnt forget anything, or linked home to visit the Asgard everyones number, because they still had the Asgards telephone number (GATE ADDRESS) :P XD

Really? Where does it state that?
"Moved on from this region of space" could easily be used in that context to mean that they no longer exist in the physical universe as we know it.

No, it is not too complicated. In "Revelations" it was shown, that the former Asgards almost looked like humans and it would be almost impossible that the evolution went almost the same way on two different places. So it is very likely that the Ancients created the lifeforms in the Ida galaxy first and then moved on to our Galaxy.

The Asgard may indeed be the creaion of the Ancients, but why would the Ancients consider the Asgard as equals if it was them who were the ones who started the evolution of the Asgard race
TheNarims

Maybe they would consider them as equal because they were able to develop much farther than the Ancients would have ever supposed.

I personnally think the Ancients made alliences with races who were advanced but were of alternate origin. they consider humans as they're children so they protect them. The Asgard and nox have already been idenitified as different to humans genetically so i'd asume they did not evolve because of the ancients and became very powerful on there own, this is why then the Ancients chose to ally with them

i agree with acharmedasgard the ancients looked at them as children even if they didnt have any tech to give the ancients im sure they found stuff incommon to create the relationship they had.

I just got the impression they did. For one thing, they didn't learn to Ascend right away. For another, they keep saying that not everyone Ascended.

That's like saying if I wrote "Today I leave. Ten days from now I'll eat a peach" it means I didn't eat anything inbetween :P.

Dammit. I can't find a shot of the Revelations-Asgard but I wouldn't say they looked almost like humans. The head was much bigger, its body was tall, but still thin (IIRC) and it just looked more human-like than the Asgard of today. Of course, the face was human-like.
But why would they evolve into such forms from human forms? That Asgard was from before they started cloning themselves, so their bodies hadn't begun deteriorating. Are you saying all human life forms will evolve into that one day?

No, Humans will evolve to be the Ancients.
It has been stressed that the Ancients are advanced humans and that we are heading towards their evolution

I though Hindell told SG-1 that the Asgard reproductive method has always been a form of advanced cellular mitosis, and sexual reproduction wasn't an option. Which is why the looked to cloning to give there race a form of immortally.
The evolution of a 'human-form' Asgard is just probably an example of parellel evolution, you need certain features to develop advance technology which are body shape provides. There shorting etc is probably initially due to their relence on technology, without natural selection to filter the gene pool all varients could survie, if you can get a machine to move something why use your muscles.
Its more likily that the various groups that made up the 'great races' evolved seperatly and the ancients where the ones which did the introducing. Though given that they re-started life in the MW, its probaby that the Nox planet is just an outpost rather than their homeworld, as they where present at the same time as the ancients.

I agree with you on this one, however I feel that the Asgard actually created their technoloy to help them in their situation rather then the technology causing the situation. For example Beaming technology -The Asgard are very frail and so beaming allows them to do things they couldn't do on there own such as traveling from world to world or doing lots of walking etc. This is why I think they created the technology and also why the Asgard beaming technology is more advanced then other races, because it needs to be.

please please don't say that, I really hate the idea that the ancients had to be responsible for everything in the entire universe. I like the idea of the asgards being a completely seperate species that were created and flourished without ancient intervention.

I believe that. I think the Ancients only allied with powerful races of alternate origin

So is there any kind of real time line for the Stargate universe, with regards to the ancients and other speices
E.g. Big Bang leads to expanding universe
Evolution of original ancient/ori speices in a young galaxy (now an old galaxy at the edge of the universe).
At some point the divide happened and the group we call ancients left their home galaxy.
Between that event and the discovery of the stargate, the following must have happened:
1. Discover and colonisation of MW
2. Encouter with the three great races and estblishment of the allance
3. Exploration of pegaus galaxy, followed by its colonization via seeding.
4. Wraith emerge in pegaus galaxy, war between them and ancient group retreat to Earth.
5. Plague causes ascention of a fraction of the ancient race, remaining life wiped out.
6. All life restarted across MW, development of various species including the goa'uld and primitive humans but not any of the great races.
7. goa'uld genetic memory allows rapid technology growth via ancient technology, they stole most of there knowlegde. (Between two fires).
8. gou'ald pretend to be Ra, and enslaves humanity spreading us across the MW. Rebellion, Earth cut off, leading to isolated development.
9.Stargate found
10. DJ gets stargate to work.

We do not know when the Ancients met the other great races. It's quite possible they met them when exploring the universe (before settling down in the Milky Way).

Whcih might explain why they settled on MW, it was the one which didn't have any other senient lifeforms. Given there history with SGA, they seem to look for empty places.

We don't know when the Nox got there. It's possible they got there after the Ancients seeded life. It's possible they were there before the Ancients seeded life but the two hadn't met yet (the Nox phaze out, after all).
And we don't know where the Furlings lived/live. All we know is that they tried to create a paradise on that moon.

It's all a guessing game really.
But I highly doubt that an entire galaxy would have no sentiant beings in it what so ever.
It like saying there is no intelligent life in this universe apart from us.

Wasn't that the point of the ancients colonising pegaus, there was no one there.
Overall, I would prefer it that Nox, Asgard, Furlings evolved in seperate galaxies meet the Ancients either as they passed through or whilst exploring. The ancients settled in MW, left for pegaus seeded it, die out/ascended.
They restarted life, the gaxaly we all know and love.
