Stargate Atlantis Action Figures!

With the second series of Stargate SG-1 action figures shipping to stores, we’re pleased to officially announce the debut series of Stargate Atlantis action figures featuring Lt. Col. John Sheppard, Dr. Elizabeth Weir and a Wraith! Just as with past releases, there will be bonus accessories - each figure in the first two assortments will include a piece of the Atlantis gate!

A somewhat reluctant addition to the Atlantis expedition, Lieutenant Colonel John Sheppard has proven himself to be a resourceful and fiercely loyal member of their team. His quick thinking and unconventional tactics are combined with uncanny instincts and an out-of-this-world sense of humor to create a leader prepared for any situation. Not to be underestimated, Dr. Elizabeth Weir was selected to command the Atlantis team after her negotiation skills impressed the military brass. Dedicated both to her mission and her crew, she has become a force to be reckoned with in the battle against the Wraith – a race of parasitic creatures who have preyed upon the Pegasus galaxy for millennia. Despite the Wraith’s numerous attempts to destroy them, the Atlantis team has proven themselves as stubborn as the Ancients.

You can expect the same articulation featured in the upcoming figures, with incredible attention to detail thanks to the artists at Jean St Jean Studios. The core assortment is scheduled to contain Lt. Colonel John Sheppard, Dr. Elizabeth Weir, a Wraith and the limited Field Ops Dr. Weir in addition to the Diamond Previews exclusive Field Ops Sheppard. Images and final details will be revealed during the upcoming American International Toy Fair!

So it looks like McKay & Teyla will probably be series 2. I'm surprised Weir is in first season, but she'll be a deffinate want for me, being a big fan of her! :weir:

EDIT: in celebration of this announcement, I have made a Stargate Action Figure livejournal community! Feel free to join. http://community.livejournal.com/stargatefigures/ :)

I am a little surprised that Weir made series 1 but I will take them anyway I can get them. I can't wait to see the Wraith.

Joy, more 3 figure waves. I'm guessing it'll probably be Weir, John (grey costume), Wraith and then a John in black costume and John... in some other costume.

Hope they fix the ugly P90s by then...

I know what you're saying. They're rather unscaled to the figures. I atleast hope they make it so Shep looks like he's shooting it.

I'm glad that DST haven't forgotten about the Atlantis cast; I was wondering how long it would take for DST to announce the first SGA wave. More immediately, I'm cheered by the hope of getting SG-1 wave 2 in time for Christmas!

Images and final details will be revealed during the upcoming American International Toy Fair!

Does anyone know when this is?

So is it safe to assume I'll never get to have a Beckett figure since he's either leaving or getting pushed back to a minor character?

I'm sure they'll be sticking to the major offworld cast. I assume the other Atlantis figures will include McKay, Teyla, & Ronan.

But Beckett seems like a likely choice, so don't give up hope. :D

I'm hoping it'll go like this:

Wave 2-
Teyla ("civilian")
Teyla (field ops)
McKay
McKay (field ops)
Ronin

Mail-in- Teyla with top from her "civilian" costume and the atlantis uniform pants

Wave 3-
Beckett
Beckett (Field ops)
Ford (MARPAT)
Ford (Field ops - preferably with Wraithified alternate head)
Wraith (grunt version with the brain-face, assuming wave 1's wraith isn't this)

Wave 4-
Caldwell
Carson
Genii soldier
Genii soldier variant (Cowen head)
Genii soldier variant (Colya head)

But yeah...that ain't gonna happen.

Wonder if Sheppard's gonna come with his cling-on?

I for one am disappointed that DST is now going to do two waves of Atlantis figures. We will now have to wait over an year to get into the secondary figures from Sg-1 that have really made the series. Don't get me wrong I like SGA but it does not have the depth of SG-1. So now we wait for a Kull warrior, Bratac, Apophis, Baal, Unas, Sokar, Jacob Carter for the sake of WEIR. Gods help us.

What alien character could they use for SGA series 2? A wraith warrior, Michael, Genni (please no)

Well, they already have 3 waves planned for SG-1, I guess they just wanted to be fair with the Atlantis figures.

Hopefully SG-1 series 4 & Atlantis series 2 will go into production at the same time. It's always a possibility! :)

(That's what I'm hoping for anyways-- I want Apophis & Jonas Quinn in figure form! :()

Aren't the Buffy and Angel lines produced seperately from each other? They're listed seperately on DST's site so if they're seperate then hopefully SG1 and SGA will also have seperate production lines. Which would be nice...if we're starting to average one SG1 wave a year then maybe we could at least get one wave of each a year.

Aren't the Buffy and Angel lines produced seperately from each other?

Not really. The waves are still structured the same. So either you get an entire Angel wave instead of a Buffy wave or you get a wave with Angel and Buffy mixed together. I imagine we'll see three waves of SGA figures, with wave 2 and 3 featuring McCay, Teyla, Ford, and Ronin. After that, we'll see either staggered or mixed waves featuring secondary and guest characters from both series and, I'm sure, other variants of the main characters as well.

The key is to be patient. We'll see just about everyone we want to see made, it will just take time. We can't realistically expect to see more than one wave of figures every 3-4 months. They will mix things up once all the main characters from both series have been given the spotlight, but they can only produce so many figures at one time and so many waves every year. Chances are they will get to the characters you want, just give them time. It will happen.

That is very sound advise. Look how long it took to get any Stargate figures in the first place! Maybe there is some hope with the 2 pack figures. The Daniel and Anubis look like an experiement that we as collectors should make sure is profitalbe for DST. Imagine a Apophis/Teal'c Serpent Armor 2 pack or a Unas and Teal'c or a O'Neil and Baal oh the list could go on and on.
BTW has anyone heard anything about ship date of the Daniel/Anubis set?

It's supposed to be released on or around the time wave 3 is released, so that means spring or summer of next year.

I assume that everyone has seen the Q & A part 5 that GW posted with DST. In it DST encourged us to make our desire known to Toys R Us, KB Toys etc... our desire to stock SG-1 figures. If DST can get the kind of distribution that includes even one of the big companies then we all can be assured that the character list will be filled out to our delight. (Apophis, Carter, Quinn etc...) So think of what the Lord of the Ring fans did with their petetion of 50,000 to save the movie of Hobbit. What could we as fans do to start a petetion to give to TRU or KB to demonstrate to them that there is great interest in SG-1?:apophis:

jmw326
December 2nd, 2006, 01:17 PM
I would recomend that we all pick on of the big ones and start with them. I think Toys R Us would be the best bet since they do alot of specialty stuff anyway and since more and more KB's seem to be shutting down across the U.S.

It might also be best to write directly to their corporate offices. It's the corporate buyers that make the decision as to what to carry or not and most stores have no real control over what they receive anyway these days. It's all done through who ever controls the distribution for their companies. The individual stores have no real say in anything anymore.

knightone

Forbidden Planet should have them in the UK. International distribution is handled differently from US distribution, so they may show up in other places as well. K-Mart stores in Australia got the Star Trek figures from DST recently, so it's worth checking out TRUs and other large chains if you are outside of the US.

Is it me, or was Weir a really odd choice for this wave?

Male Wraith = good and popular, John Sheppard = good and popular, Elizabeth Weir = average and unpopular.

Rodney would've been a much better choice...

In my opinion.

jmw326

Maybe they paired her with Shep and the Wraith because she is not as popular and would not sell as well paired with another character later on. That is the only reasoning I can see.

Marcus117
December 4th, 2006, 10:49 AM
Well... for that logic to apply one has to assume that the person doing the buying would want her to go alongside the Wraith and Sheppard, right?

But if they are a collector of that degree then I can't see why they wouldn't buy her paired with any one of the characters...

Also, if there not interested in the full set of figures then I can't actually see why they would care to buy in this wave either.

Nice theory though, it has some gravitas...

I don't know. To me it makes sense that Weir is in this wave. She is far more active in the episode-to-episode events than either Hammond or Landry have ever been, or even O'Neill when he was base commander. She's more of a part of each episode as well as being more of a part in more missions than the SG1 commanders. So, to me, it makes sense that she would be part of the early releases for Atlantis even though Landry and Hammond were not part of the early SG1 releases.

It also makes sense that she is paired with Shepherd. They seem to be on more of a special wavelength as far as their working relationship than any of the other characters both on Atlantis and on SG1. They are very supportive of each other and seem to back each other up in a way no other character does for another in either series.

Actualy no, since these are being mostly sold at online specialty shops and you get better deals on buying the set then buying them individualy that logic would apply because most of the collectors I know on these and other boards would rather buy the set with only one figure they don't really care for then buy a set with only one figure they may want (in that case they would buy indivudualy). Since Shepard and the Wraith are pretty much going to be big sellers it only makes since to pair the less populare Weir with them so that the stores don't have hundreds of Weirs sitting on thier shelves.

Well said. She's more dynamic & really does take part.

I must agree that she is an odd choice-- since we're used to the way DST is releasing SG-1, with order of character importance (or the way it seems presented) & Weir not being portrayed as much as say McKay & Shep.

None the less, I'm still happy she's getting a figure release, since I was afraid she wouldn't get the attention. :weir:

I would be willing to bet a Wraith queen would be the alien in either wave 2 or 3 of Atlantis.

I'd say she is an important part of the team. And another thing to consider is that she is the leader of the expedition and Shepherd is the leader of the main Atlantis teams. So this wave could be considered the "leader" wave. I think the main reason the first wave of SG1 was structured the way it was is because O'Neill and Jackson are the two original characters of the franchise taken from the movie as regulars for the series.

DST currently doesn't have ships included in their license. They can renegotiate at any time they feel it is necessary, of course, so that may change in the future. But as of now, no ships are coming in the forseeable future from DST.

As for random SGC guards, you can try asking the question in the "Ask DST" thread tacked at the top of this section.

I think the line is going to sell well and we will see a Beckett in Wave 3 or 4.

knightone
December 7th, 2006, 10:07 AM
Yeah, Beckett is important enough that he'll probably be one of the characters done in one of the initial SGA waves. I'll venture a guess and say waves 2 and 3 will have the following characters:

Teyla
Ronin
McKay
Ford
Beckett
Wraith Queen

There's pretty much only one version of Ronin thus far, so he might be the "alien" figure for one of the waves. So it might be MCKay, Beckett, and Ronin in one wave and Teyla, Ford, and Wraith queen in the other wave.
