What is your favorite season, overall, and why?

bcmilco
May 2nd, 2004, 10:43 PM
Season 4 was definately my favorite.

Why? Because it had everything in abundance.

Episodes with ambiguous moral issues that make you think ( The Other Side, Scorched Earth)

Laughs, and generally just a good time (WoO, Point of No Return)

The Asgard/Replicators

Mayborne :)

Introduction of Osiris

Some great character pieces.

A great "what if" piece in 2010

ship

and We got a Ha'tak :D

I honestly don't think there was one episode that I thought was bad in s4. A few were below average but overall I just really enjoyed s4 the most.

Season 2. The best episodes (I mean, it had The Fifth Race!). A team of 4 caring people, as well as great Jack/Daniel friendship. And, they were able to have the special Jack/Daniel relationship, and still show both of them caring for Sam and Teal'c. The whole team was a family.

And, what should be in the eyes of the beholder stayed in the eyes of the beholder.

I hate to be indecisive but I just cannot pick a favorite season. The only season that I was less than completely happy when taken as a whole was season 5 which, although it had a few stellar episodes, seemed overall sort of slow. But I absolutely loved seasons 3 and 4 and 7.

Season 4. Had lots of good episodes and the funniest one ever WoO. Had ship, Mayborne and briliant episode with the Asgard/Replicators

Yep, 4 definitely. There are just so many fab eps in that season and I loved the shippy arc for S&J.

Season Four. Great because:

1) Sam and Jack arc
2) Lots of Sam eps
3) Window of Opportunity
4) Prodigy - I actually did mean Prodigy. I said Proving Ground but meant Prodigy. I am the worlds biggest Elisabeth Rosen fan. Run her site and all...
5) And loads more... :D

Hate to bust your bubble, but Proving Ground was in the second half of season five :S

It was a tough choice between 2 and 3, but I had to go with season three. The characters were well developed, and the actors had made the parts their own. Even my least liked eps of this season were well written. Complex stories, moral ambiguity, witty repartee, and a team of people who all showed that they genuinely cared for one another (more than they are supposed to). Stargate at its best.

In every season, there are outstanding episodes and of course, the bad ones too.

My favourite season is Season 2, because it has many good episodes, and has my favourites - The Tok'ra 1&2, The Fifth Race, The Serpent's Lair, Thor's Chariot, Show and Tell. For me, the worst episode in Season 2 is Gamekeeper.

There are outstanding episodes from each season that I've rewatched multiple times. I have to say, though, S4 has more episodes that I watch over and over. So S4 is #1 followed by S3 and S6. S2 gets honorable mention for the Tok'ra and Jacob Carter episodes.

My favourite season use to be Season Three but now I think Season Four is slightly over taking it. There both awesome seasons with really cool story arcs as well as awesome standalone episodes. They also elaborated on the Tok'ra mythology that was introduced in Season Two. :)

Gotta be six.. Finally got rid of that annoying Jackson guy. Although I didn't really care too much for the new guy either. Lots of good stuff in this season. "Sight Unseen" "Prometheus" "Unnatural Selection" "Paradise Lost" and "Full Circle" to name a few. :D

I chose Season 2 in the poll by accident but my actual favourite was Season 3

I liked the whole Sokar issue (especially Jolinar's Memories/Devil You Know) and I loved episodes such as Fair Game (the first appearance of three "high ranked" goa'ulds, I thought that they were introduced nicely), Pretense (just a great episode, many different characters in the same episode), Maternal Instinct (don't really know about this episode but I liked it :p), the list goes on...

Following close behind is Season 2.

I chose Season 4 as my favorite, I think it had a little bit of everything in that season. I could watch WoO over and over again and not get sick of it. My next favorite season would have to be Season 3.

I love many individual episodes across all the SG1 Seasons but I had to vote for Season 2 as I loved the whole Teamworking atmosphere and friendship between all the 4 members.

Season 2 also brought "In The Line Of Duty" and "Tok'Ra 1 and 2",and "The Fifth Race".I adored most of the episodes and never feel the need to Fast Forward while rewatching.Truly a classic Season IMO!!

Sole exception to above being One False Step!Don't like "Mime Artists",my Bad,IMO. Still enjoy the frustrated little dance and "See!See! See! as performed by Daniel though! :D

Season 4 for me. I found it by far the most creative and well produced of the seasons. My favorite episodes:

2010. So well directed, such a great ending.

watergate. about time they didn't gate into vancouver for once.

really liked Absolute Power, though it only got two stars from this site, as well as the Other Side. And then of course the finale.

to tell the truth, I'm looking over season 5, and it comes damn close to season 4. It's a tough call.

Season 3, so many great episodes that can be rewatched again and again. The actors were just fully becoming their characters and everything was working like clockwork. Also the conspiracies have not made their presence glaring and it was more focused on SG1. With great episodes like Forever In A Day, Nemesis and Crystal Skull how could I not choose Season 3.

I chose Season 1 partly because no one else has but also because it was the first I saw. I love everything about Stargate and I cant pick between the seasons because I love them all. However if I had to pick, S1 would be my favourite because I loved the original movie and when I heard it was being turned into a TV series I was thrilled. I had really high expectations and the first season easily met all of those and from then on I was hooked.

If forced to Pick.... Season 6...

and to be honest, i thought S4 was terrible.... Doh!

In ranking order... S6... S2.... S5... S1... S3... S4

Not seen any of 7 yet....

Season 4. It had a wonderful starting episode that emphasized more on the asgard and replicators than the Goa'uld. Sam also had longer (nicer) hair in the first 10 episodes or so.

What is your favorite season, overall, and why?
You should add a "I don't have a favorite season." option. I usually have a favorite episode per season, and a favorite episode of the series, but the seasons of SG-1 are just too well balanced for me to have a favorite.

I found that very interesting because I also loved the movie. So much that when I saw the first episode of the series I flat out didn't like it :) mainly because I felt it strayed to far from the movie's concept. It wasn't until a couple of years later that I finally gave the series a fair shot and became hooked.

As far fav' season, I'll go with S4 for WoO if nothing else.

All the ep/seasons are great in their own way. They offer continuity and allow for different branches of creativity. It's been awhile, but I'd say the season that introduced us to Anubis was a better then average one.

Season 2, for all of the reasons listed above.
The NID hadn't morphed into an overwrought government conspiracy yet.
The Tok'ra and Asgard were brilliantly teased and then slowly revealed through tidbits over the course of several episodes.
Apophis was killed twice and still remained a credible threat without slipping into supervillian cliché.
Ma'chello!
The overhanging Sha're and Skaara story arcs are coaxed along without suffering from overexposure.
Time warping episodes like A Matter of Time and 1969 are actually thought out a bit so that they make sense.
The Gamekeeper is my favorite episode ever of SG-1 so it's fitting that it would be contained in my favorite season.
Even the few boring or ill-conceived episodes have their moments and aren't patently offensive.
After watching Seasons 1 and 2 straight through, in order, I was hooked on Stargate forever.

SeaBee

I went for season 2.
I'd tried watching a couple of episodes of season 1 and didn't really get into them. Then I watched "A Matter Of Time" by accident, and I got hooked. Some excellent episodes, and the characters were better defined and more developed.

Went with S4. It just seemed to me that in season 4 everyone had found a comfortable rhythm and the episodes reflect that. And by everyone, I don't just mean the actors. I also mean the writers, directors, etc. There is an "effortless" feel to S4 for me that makes it fun to watch. :)

September 25th, 2004, 03:11 PM
This is a hard one. Let me think...

Ok, season 6 has to be a favourite because it's the season I first started watching.

Then there's season 3 which has my favourite episode, Urgo, and also because the characters all seemed to be more established and comfortable.

Season 2 is also a favourite because there are so many great episodes, and I love season 4 which explores so many different scenarios and lets the characters really get to grips with what they're doing.

I love season 1 as that introduces everyone and season 5 looks a bit deeper into what is going on and is more challenging for the characters. I love season 7, but I won't say too much about that as I don't want to spoil it for anyone.

What can I say? I just love Stargate, regardless of who's in it or not and even the episodes I don't particularly enjoy first time, I find I can watch over and over and over and over...

:D

Okay, I’ve finally decided to pick one. It was a battle between Season 3 and 4 for me, but 4 finally won out.

It had Window of Opportunity, one of my favorite episodes of the series. It had interesting and thought provoking moral conflicts. (The Other Side and Scorched Earth. Though I think they pulled a copout on SE. I would have preferred the other ending.) It had evil Danny. (Absolute Power which I thought was a fitting ending to that story arc.) Some of my all-time favorite Daniel dialogue. (Watergate) “So they occasionally catch fire but they keep perfect time?” and “But it’s Swiss.” And the episode was good. Loved Upgrades for the humor. Had a great season premier (Small Victories) and finale (Exodus). Love the Replicators. Season 3’s opener is probably my least favorite of the series. I’m pretty sure Out of Mind/Into the Fire is my least favorite season ender/opener. Some good Jack/Maybourne/Kinsey stuff in Chain Reaction. I like the introduction of Osiris as a new Goa’uld. (The Curse) The First Ones has grown on me. I’m still not a card carrying Unas fan, but it had great Daniel in his element thing, but poor Rothman. 2010 because the whole possible future/time traveling stuff is interesting.

I could probably say something good about every episode of SG-1, but I could say a lot of good stuff for most of the episodes of this season. I won’t say there are any bad episodes in season 4. *cough* Emancipation. Season 3 did have Demons. Even though Crossroads, Prodigy, and Entity were good eps., I don’t make any special point to watch them again when they air. They can keep/burn/use as target practice Divide and Conquer for the can of worms they opened up and because they killed Martouf, but I didn’t always have such distaste for the episode.

But dang, Season 3 had great episodes – Forever in a Day, Crystal Skull, Nemesis, Foothold, Urgo, Fair Game, Learning Curve, etc. but 4 has more episodes that I consistently like to watch more often.

February 6th, 2005, 09:15 PM
mine is actually 6 also...

for several reasons:

a) has ALL my favorite (and still living :D) characters: sam, daniel, jonas, maj. davis

b) had some great stories... descent is great cheesy fun (it's one of my faves... i can watch it over and over and it gets cheesier and cheesier but doesn't get dull! :D), smoke and mirrors was interesting and they had the great tie-in to foothold, which was my fave ep of season 3.... plus there was the other guys, which was hilarious! frozen, which brought back the ancients :) (and i love how rising goes back to this ep :)) of course there's also abyss, which was just a really good character episode... metamorphosis has niirti FINALLY getting what she deerved! :D... plus prophecy, the changeling, and full circle are amazing character and emotion-filled episodes :) the changeling is one of the series' best IMO...

c) introduction of prometheus :D

d) did a great job of not just dumping daniel and then bringing him back.. they brought him back well thanks to his eps in season 6....

i would say seasons 5 and 7 are close seconds :) season 8 so far is up there, but i haven't seen every ep and those i have seen i've only seen once, so i'll wait for dvd to decide :)

I'd say four or seven. Four had WoO and loads of other hilarious moments, but seven had lots of really well made eps, like Heroes.

I wasn't a big fan of season six. I'm not sure why, although I did really like the McKay-Carter banter during Redemption. :D

I completely disagree - I think McKay's character is great on Atlantis for two reasons - 1) You gotta watch a few episodes and then all the sudden you're used to him, and 2) they toned down his bad sense of humor (and lowered the amount of jokes he tells) and they are much more consistent with, although not always funny, actually representing his character.

But, the McKay Carter thing almost ruined Redemption for me because it was sooooooooooooo terrible.

As for fav seasons, it's either season 3 or 4 that has the least number of pathetic episodes (which is currently held by 7, although 8's going for the record).

OMG was this hard. It was 3,4, or 5. All three had such amazing episodes it was really difficult to choose. Season 4 has one of my all time fav episodes in Foothold, but i love season 3 for LEGACY, SHADES OF GREY FOREVER IN A DAYand POV. I love so many eps in this season, but ultimately it was the leads on episodes from this season that I loved better.

I chose season 5 in the end for PROVING GROUND, REVELATIONS, MERIDIAN, BETWEEN TWO FIRES, 2001, SUMMIT and LAST STAND. So many good episodes. It was really hard to choose, but ultimately, when i thought about it, this is the season I turn to for a good episode when i just want to watch a good DVD

I'm going have to say season 7, only becasue it's the one I rememer best. The airing of sci-fi programs here isn't great ...

Season four is my favourite because so many of my favourite episodes are in that particular one.

This was hard but I chose season three (season four is also great!). My favourite episodes in that season are Deadman switch, Legacy, Foothold, The Devil you know etc. It has only couple of bad episodes.

Season 1. Before the show started alternating between formula and hopelessly complicated story arcs, the first season was truly experimental with episodes as diverse as "Fire and Water," "Cold Lazarus," "The Nox" and "The Torment of Tantalus." Even the hackneyed sci-fi cliches that informed "The First Commandment," "Brief Candle," "Tin Man" and "There But For The Grace of God" were treated uniquely in terms of the irresistable team dynamic that SG-1 exuded as opposed to the flip irreverence and world-weariness that accompanied "The Tomb," "Fail Safe" and "Homecoming."

While not quite a triumph on the level of "Letters from Pegasus," "Politics" is a serviceable clip show that introduces archnemesis Kinsey and contains more accurate characterization and snappy dialogue than the entire seventh season combined. The often derided "Emancipation" is pure formula, yet the season 1 team dynamic is still in full effect, which is worth far more to me than the visually impressive but ultimately soulless efforts that characterized later seasons.

There's also an incredible sense of scale, an emphasis on human "smallness" that was lost once SG-1 started knocking off the Gou'ald left and right (and went totally out the window with ludicrous concepts like the Prometheus). Ultimately, many of the arcs begun here would end unsatisfactorily (the destruction of the Tollan and serious weakening of the Asgard immediately come to mind) which makes these initial encounters seem even more treasured.

Yeah, season 1 rocked. RDA still playing it straight much of the time before his slow (and painful) transformation into goofy/dumb/disinterested O'Neill; Teal'c as a proud alien warrior before he starts watching Star Wars, playing video games and setting up O'Neill's punchlines; ample references to the movie and respect for the show's origins in mythology. I miss season 1. :(

Said everything i was thinking.

Season 4, but it was a close call with season 3 which I also thought was excellent. Best parts of season 4? Lots of good SAM episodes, lots of humour, Jacob, good plots! I agree with the below, nice summary:
