Is it just me, or are the captains of the various Earth ships starting to get that "Red Shirt" vibe? ie, a character that they can kill off regularly to build some off the shelf tension?

that's a good point, and yeah I should say "earth vessel" captains, then -- cause I count Pendergast for sure.

I wouldn't go as far as to say the captains are Red Shirts when only one Captain has died rather than himself, his crew an his ship. It definitely points out that the show isn't ship based when since they are willing to kill a captain or blow up a ship when ever they deem it necessary.
