right now my ranking and duration here at gateworld makes it so my ranking of other people dosn't yet count. Can anyone tell me how long I have to be a member before it will. I just like the idea of the ranking system since it reinforces people who are mature and polite and detracts from people who are the opposite. As such I am eagar to be able to participate in the system. Thanks.

I find it rewards humor the most. Except when I just gallop around the forum flinging green randomly until I can give it to the post I really wanted to.
As such I am eagar to be able to participate in the system. Thanks.
Cheers! :)

but it dosn't HOW long you have untill your ranking of other people actually counts. The thread only mentions that there is a time to wait untill your ranking actualy counts.

I think that once you have 50 posts, your rep counts.
Of course, the comments you make before 50 posts are still worth something to the recipient. :D

I've seen some absolute scumvermin (by my definition) with high rep... and conversely seen some really fantastic people with low rep, so I wouldn't put much stock in it as a guage of who's "good" and definitely not who's "mature".

EVERYONE here counts, whether you have 30 posts or 3,000. The number of posts is indicative only of how prolific someone is at hitting the "Post Reply" button ;), not the quality of their entries. Just post thoughtfully and folks will respect that. :) Well, MOST folks will, anyway. ;)

i didn't mean it like that. i just meant that I wondered what the time was I had to be a member for me to be able to particpate in the ranking system. (the FAQ sheet says that people with low ranking or who ahvent been aorund long enough, cannot actually affect someone's ranke, for good or for bad.)

Awh, that was sweet.
But, seriously, don't go around posting meaninglessly just to get your post count up or try to get to the next "level." It's not a competition (even though some people think it is). People won't remember you that way and if they do they might just be annoyed by it. Just keep making some awesome posts and people will respond.

I think it's somewhere around 50 posts that your ability to leave green (or red) rep for other people starts. I am not sure if it is also a combo of how many posts and a physical length of time that you have to be here. But it will probably kick in soon for you. :)

This should tell you what you need to know. :)
I see now that it's the same link...:P
You need 50 posts to be able to give someone positive or negative rep. I don't think there's a time limit.

You might get some rep points the longer you are a member, but I can't find where I thought I saw that, so I don't know if that is accurate.

Off the bat you can get greened or red by other members. As a newbie, you can still gray someone and give them your feedback. The trick is to click the justice scale. It took me weeks to figure that out. I was clicking the jello blocks. :o
