View Full Version : J-Men - Am I missing anyone?

I can't shake the feeling that I've missed someone when I made the J-Men banner (see sic). Any tips on additional J-Men appreciated.

For those that don't get it, J-Men refers to the disproportunate number of Sci-Fi lead men whose name begins with the letter J. It's hard to find more then 1 or 2 for every other letter in the alphabet. (Note: This only reffers to the 'captain' type main character on Sci-Fi - not Fantasy - TV series).

Current members:
John Robinson who is very much lost (Lost in Space - using picture from more recent movie adaptation)
James T. Kirk who never met a green alien babe he didn't like (Star Trek)
John Koenig who was on the one show represented that I've never seen (Space 1999)
Jean-Luc Picard who prefers tea, earl grey, hot to green alien babes (Star Trek: The Next Generation)
Jeffrey Sinclair who, it appears, had a hole in his mind (Babylon 5)
John Sheridan who, it would seem, did not have a hole in his mind (Babylon 5)
Jack O'Neil who needs no further introduction here
John Crichton who not only went out there, but also out of his mind (Farscape)
John Doggett who didn't believe (X-Files)
Jonathan Archer who's doing everything again for the first time in the ST universe (Enterprise)
Jeremiah who survived the 'Big Death' but will he survive the even more onerous shadow of 'cancellation' (Jeremiah (Showtime))
And John Sheppard who's just getting started.

There's John Doggett, but I don't think that really counts.

Actually, yes, that does count. Thanks for reminding me (or not, I've tried to suppress that part of the X-files :))

If you want to go way way back, there's always John Robinson from "Lost in Space".

I'll throw in another now that I think about it. Martin Landau played Commander John Koeing in "Space 1999". Who knows, maybe I'll think of a few more obscure references for you.

Ok, I've added John Robinson and John Koenig. I did cheat about with Robinson by using a picture from the much more recent movie. Same character, just different actors :) Since this is my thing I get to make up the rules :D

Well it may not be much to anyone else but I think it is pretty cool and I definitely enjoyed that stroll down memory lane with the *J-men* thanks :D

I hope I've gotten everyone now as I've flat run out of space (without having two tiers). I've also added everyones name to the banner.

It falls well within the guidelines set by this forum.

1. Remember that the forum is rated PG. Do not include inappropriate (or borderline) images or links in your signature.

2. If you use an image in your signature, it must reside on a server somewhere on the Internet -- and you must have permission to use it.

3. The total file size of all images in your signature may not exceed 15KB.

4. Your signature's width must not be so wide that it stretches beyond the forum template. It also may not be more than about 200 pixels tall. Remember, less is more! Your signature usually shouldn't dominate your post.

1. N/A

2. It's on my server. As for copyright I'm no different then most here.

3. The image size is under 15KB

4. It's narrow enough not to stretch and only 75 pixels high (as opposed to the maximum 200). I've still got 125 pixels left in that regard.

aschen: Your signature picture + text is about about 150 pixels in height and is therfor taking up much more space (double)

Edit: A little bit of math reveals that on a system with 1280 by 1024 res my sig pic takes up exactly 4,12% of the total screen real estate. Not half :p

Yep, lol, you can revise the rules all you want. However, in keeping with all the other "J" people are from TV series, should you want some pics of Guy Williams, here's a link.

*taps keyboard* I'm allowed to have big images cuz I'm cooler than you. :P

Well 150 is a lot smaller than 200. :P

There's still Agent James West if you count the old show Wild Wild West as scifi.

Let me just make a quick search through Google's directory of sci-fi shows...

What about Jake Berenson from Animorphs?
Jake Foley from Jake 2.0?
Jesse Kilmartin from Mutant X (despite how much I dislike that show)
Johnny Domino from Nightman (do superheroes even count?)
Jules Verne from The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne (work with me, here. I'm googling)

ibwolf

Jake Foley at least counts, dunno about the others, not familiar enough with it. Still, I'm flat out of space for now at least :) What I really need is to create a servlet that will stitch together a random selection of J-Man each time. That way I wont have to pick and choose. Now if only I was a programmer ... oh, wait I am :D

When did his last name get revealed? Was it in the last 10 books I missed or that crappy miniseries I never bothered watching?

Manic

If you're refering to the series that aired on Nickelodeon, that wasn't a miniseries. It just got cancelled...

And yeah, that's where they said Jake's last name was Berenson. I have no idea where/if it was revealed in the books.

Jprime (Gateworld Forum), and Jayne (Firefly, any relative to the boy named Sue?).

Jayne doesn't count, he's Thomas Jayne. I'd suggest Jor'el, but I suppose he's more a background character.

Jayne doesn't count, he's Thomas Jayne.
Internet Movie Database (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0303461/) lists Adam Baldwin's character as "Jayne Cobb," not Thomas Jayne. The only problem I see is that Jayne is a crewman, not the captain. He's not even the first mate (Zoe).

You're right of course. Thomas Jayne is an actor or something; I must have been tired.

Does Jonathon Creek count? Or John Steed might be more sci-fi? Oh, and how about Joe 90? Jeff Tracey?

Hmm. I was checking the original post to see if you're counting movies as well, and you do realise that you have 'Jack O'Neil' as a caption for a picture of 'Jack O'Neill'? Jack O'Neil (one l, no sense of humour) should be Kurt Russell.

There's Johnny Smith from the Dead Zone although I don't know if that's Sci-Fi-y enough for you.

EDIT: oh I just saw that someone already suggested Johnny Smith

By the way, I love your descpritions of each character on the first post. :p

The Dead Zone is more fantasy. Same with John Doe (curse them for cancelling that series) and some other series.

John Bobbet, yeah, he's the guy who had his penis cut off. No sci-fi connection there.
Yes, I'd figured that much out, thank you very much.

John Murdoch from Dark City
That's a movie, not a TV show. A great movie though.

Does Jonas Quinn count? I know he's not a captain, but he's on Langara's joint ruling council...that's got to count for something. :)
No. It's not about them being in a position of power, but rather being the "show's star", sort of.
