i don't think she was in a relationship with someone, i think shejust wasn't ready to be in a relationship with barrett- whether it was because of her break up with pete or because she thought something could happen with jack, i don't know. after what happened in threads there was no way she'd date barrett.

More seriously, the 'not exactly' for me is Sam's way of heading off Barratt asking her out. Whether this was because she was with someone really or because she just didn't want to get involved post Pete/Threads only TPTB know.

For me it was TPTB's way of not satisfying anybody on the ship question and keeping everybody guessing.

As for me I think that line does mean to me that Sam is seeing Jack, I mean after threads and Moebidus it would be logical. But than again it could also just be Sam not wanting to talk about it. What would be normal after the whole Pete thing
