An emotionally charged battle of the sexes will take to the Tidemark Stage.
Showcase Theatre Festival will perform one of Shakespeare’s most popular and controversial plays, The Taming of the Shrew, and Cole Porter’s most successful musical, Kiss Me, Kate.
Just like last year’s inaugural season, audiences will be wowed by two related presentations (Kiss Me, Kate is about the out-of-town tryout of a musical version of The Taming of the Shrew) with essentially the same cast in both.

Teryl Rothery, who will be playing Kate in the play and Lois/Bianca in the musical, has agreed to take time out from a red-hot career on both the large and small screen in order to recharge her acting, singing, dancing batteries with Showcase. Fans of TV’s most popular Sci-Fi series ever, Stargate SG-1, will recognize Teryl as Dr. Fraiser, the base doctor.
The Taming of the Shrew opens on July 26 at the Tidemark Theatre in Campbell River, with Kiss Me, Kate opening on July 29 and performances alternating thereafter, including matinees on Saturday and Sunday.
On August 6, right after the afternoon performance, the whole set, cast, crew and costumes get moved to the Sid Williams Theatre in Courtenay, where “Shrew” opens on August 10 and “Kate” on August 11. Everything ends on August 20.
In addition, the Showcase Festival will be fulfilling a mandate to make theatre accessible to all incomes by offering three lower cost performances in Campbell River and two in Courtenay, prior to the opening nights.
