The great thing is that it was almost from the word go in the series as well.....there never seemed to be any awkwardness between them.....it's something that I miss so much now that Jack has left.....

What I like about Jack and Daniel's relationship (as opposed to RDA and MS) is all the layers of complexity in there. Daniel filled, not completely but to some degree, the void left in Jack's life by the loss of his family. Jack was the annoying big brother/dad that Daniel needed. They are very different, in almost every way, in their political views, their life experiences, their moral stance.
Jack and Teal'c have the mutual warrior bonds.
Jack and Sam have the commander/subordinate/mentor/student thing.
Sam and Daniel have the mutual respect of fellow scientists (plus the fabulous Science Twins)
Teal'c and Daniel have a complicated friendship which has grown out of pain (Shar'e and her abduction and death)
Jack and Daniel, on the surface, have so little in common but the magic is there right from the film, right from the start. They drive each other to distraction. There are times when I'm not sure how much they like each other. But I never doubt for a moment, how much they love each.
In what ever way you interprete that.
