DEAR STACY: On one of the awards shows, they said Dana Elcar had died. I haven't seen anything about it anywhere. Please give details and the reaction of costar Richard Dean Anderson. -- S.M.S., E. Rutherford, N.J.
DEAR S.M.S.: After a 50-year career as an actor and director in theater, film and television, Elcar died of complications from pneumonia June 6 of last year at age 77. He suffered from glaucoma during production of "MacGyver," losing nearly all his eyesight by the end of the series. He continued to act in spite of his blindness, guest starring on shows including "ER" and "Law & Order." He's survived by his wife and four children. Anderson praised his former costar at the time of his passing, saying that he had made the job much easier for him, and that working with Elcar had been "a learning experience that was very warm and loving for all seven years" of the show.
