shiny, correct me if I'm wrong, but despite your bad day/week, this is generally intended as a NICE thread, right? Somewhat off-kilter in its humor? So if people are gonna be genuinely pissy, would it be all right if I told them to hike off to another thread? :)

No hate from me. Can't be bothered on something this petty.

And you'll have to forgive Nuby, he's a bit of a masochist. ;)

EDIT: Awww, you're a goddess too, just not Nuby's goddess. Being the good minion he is, he refuses to recognize anyone else. :D

Well some people have a problem with spelling. This has come up over the last few years since i've been a member of GW.

Most of the time we respect and accept small spelling errors. Its something that only annoys a few.

::MAL for forgot there is 2 LL'S in the welsh letter LL

I'm one of "the few" it annoys. I know typos happen, but particularly in regard to thread titles, it's so easy to fix, why not just do it? I usually don't mind typos within a post- you see it once and pass by it and that's the end, but thread titles are something you have to look at for a while- particularly if the thread gets popular. So why not fix it when you see it, or ask a Mod to fix it for you?

I usually do that with thread titles. its typos and little mistakes that people have been corected on in the past. :-)

There was even a person who sent emails out to people correcting spelling and grammer.

I don't mind the odd typo here and there. Something like "Stargte" or "Atlantsi" where the rest of the message is okay is no big deal, but there's a difference between that sort of thing and one wher all the werds ar speld incorectlee. ;) In that case, I either figure it's a child, an non-native English typer (although those kind of typos are easy to discern, as well) or a troll. :p

I'm the kind of person where if I notice it, even days later, I'll correct my post. I've done friendly reminders for things like "BTW, it's spelled 'Teal'c'...here's a link to the Omnipedia", but I can think of at least one occasion where I took the smartass road. ;) All in good humor, though...I hope.

I don't think I've come across very many Posters,on this, or the previous,GWF, who were, or are, immune to making spelling errors, or typos.
Myself included. ;)

Simple answer to being annoyed by misspelt Thread titles, everyone ?
Calmly PM a Mod,and let them deal with the problem.
That's why they're there ! :)

It's also called, use proper English/American spelling and grammar.... Wow, is that an oxymoron! :D :D Ok, so maybe there isn't such a thing as that.

EDIT: See!! I told you English is a mussed up language. And yes I mean mussed, not messed.

You could tell I'm not a native English speaker? How?

...and *I* thought it was hilarious when Shiny complained about spelling errors and made a few of her own..... ;)

I can't, unless you make a mistake...and then I might. Actually, what I meant was it is sometimes easy to figure out in context when it's just a simple mistake of grammar and/or spelling. Having graded papers in English written by non-native English speakers, it's been my experience they more often make errors in grammar than in spelling.

I'm paranoid about my own spelling, but as long as I can figure out what someone means, I can usually ignore mistakes. I don't like entire posts full of netspeak, acronyms and poor grammar (i.e., r u m/f? i lol at yr msg. pm me if u wanna...), but I try not to get *publicly* annoyed at it...unless I'm in full had-a-bad-day-feel-like-a-net-monster mode. ;) It's been known to happen...

(BTW, I just switched to a new keyboard and I'm having to retype every other word. Grrrrrr....)

Ah well...I'm just sitting here grading papers on English language history written by non-native speakers.....you would have a field day there....
I also check things twice before hitting "send"...takes a bit longer, but I *hate* finding typos in my own posts. "Txtspeak" gives me the creeps...it almost physically hurts. The only one allowed to do this to me is a good friend from Egypt who is illiterate and has started learning to write by using his mobile. :D

Sayeth what thou wilt, there is no such thing as correct spelling and grammar in a living language. We only spell the way we do because of popular spelling mistakes from the past!

The only languages that have "proper" grammar and spelling are dead ones - and then the newest examples will be spelt differently to the older examples.

Having said that - I learned to type - why can't everyone else? ;)

Seriously never complain about someone else's spelling/typing - it'll only come back to haunt you.

I thought this thread had its moments. All in all, an interesting reed. "I wood deem it appropri8 two tell them anything Uwant."

Carter: "In a word, 'yes.'"
O'neill: "In two words, 'yes....sir.'"

it's strange but sometimes, non-english native speakers can notice some spelling mistakes made by native english speakers, because in oral form, they may seem equal, for english people, but in the written form, some words appear very different from others for a non-english speakers, due to the way the non-english person is pronouncing the word...

For exemple: (something that can't be checked by a spelling software, because those words do exist, but it's rather a grammar mistake, mixed with spelling mistake):
I see a lot of "would of " instead of "would have".
Maybe for some english people, this sounds the same, but for non-english people, "of" doesn't sound like "have".. Because the letter O and A sound completely different..
