Has there been anything (besides kissing co-stars) that the actors never
expected to be doing on the show? "The truth is, I haven't encountered
anything that I've been shocked to have to do," considers Luttrell. "I'm
enjoying it as layers get uncovered but I haven't been blindsided by
anything yet. Who knows, maybe I will next year. Paul, have you been
blindsided by anything? Other than the homoerotica?" "I was blindsided by
that, that's for sure," he laughs. "I think as Season Two progressed that
Beckett became a little more brave. I think in the first season he was a bit
of a Cowardly Lion. I spoke to [director/producer] Martin Wood about this,
and Brad, to make sure he's not always cowardly. I think it's a great
element of the character but I think as he gets more comfortable being in
Atlantis and going through the wormhole. So I think there'll still be a bit
of trepidation all the time, but as all of us do, you grow to suit your
environment, and I think that's come into play for his character. So he's
growing in that way and he's dealing with some hard choices, especially in
the second half of the season, ethically speaking and morally speaking. And
also dealing with a lot of therapy due to Duet and that imfamous kiss. And
that would be me, the actor. David Hewlett. Lips like sandpaper..." he
mutters.
Informed the show's producers read this magazine and offered the chance to
make some requests for next season, McGillion is quick to put his order in,
"I'd love a Swedish, female nurse." And on a more realistic track? " I think
both of us would like to see some backstory for our characters a little bit
more, that would be nice. I'm really happy with the way the chracter's going
for me, but you never see Beckett's quarters...ever. So it'd be cool to see
where he hangs out and maybe see some of us off-duty. What do these guys do?
Do they play some kind of weird Athosian chess game or something? We dont
know what they do in their spare time. Is there a bowling alley in Atlantis?
I don't know. I think there should be though. Maybe a pool table, that'd be
nice too. We need R&R. Maybe even a bar, who knows? Games room, bar,
simulated beach..."
