      The Serpent’s Lair
      Secrets
Bane *It should have a chance to win something for a change *

I’d have voted Need if it had been the Jack/Daniel scene, but alas that wasn’t how the ep ended.
      IMO always implied.

          The Tok'ra, part 2

          INT—SGC GATE ROOM

[O'Neill, Hammond, and Garshaw look on as Carter, Jacob, and Martouf fall through the Gate landing on the ramp. A couple of Marine guards assist them to their feet, and they all walk into the SGC. Jacob/Selmak approaches Hammond.]

          SELMAK
I must give you thanks. You have saved my life and that of my new host. We thank you.
          GARSHAW
          This is wonderful news.
          HAMMOND
Yes. Can we talk to your host?
[Jacob bows his head, then clears his throat, looking around sheepishly.]

          JACOB
So when the little fella inside me is talking, do I sound like she does?
          TEAL'C
          That is correct.
          JACOB
It's strange. I can feel myself talking, but it's not me saying the words. You know?
          O'NEILL
Don't know. Take your word for it.
          DANIEL
          How do you feel?
          JACOB
Well, considering I got one of those things inside me, pretty damn good!
          [Teal'c looks on approvingly.]

          JACOB
Listen, George. Because of this blending thing, I already know everything there is to know about the Tok'ra. You made the right call.
[O'Neill is smiling. Martouf and Carter, too.]

          HAMMOND

          (Smiling)
          I hope so.
          JACOB
I would be proud to serve as liaison between the Earth and these people.
          HAMMOND
Good. Well, on that note, perhaps you can ask them to come with me to do a little debriefing.
          GARSHAW
I'm afraid we cannot. We must go.
          [Hammond is taken aback.]

          TEAL'C
          You are safe here.
          GARSHAW
Because of the spy, the Goa'uld may already be at the site the Tok'ra have moved to.
          CARTER
You can't stay a little longer?
          MARTOUF
No, we must go quickly and stop the tunnels there before they are grown.
          GARSHAW
We must move the Tok'ra to yet another new home. Do you not have a dialing device here?
          O'NEILL
Yeah, we slapped a little one together.
          GARSHAW
Hmm, you made it yourself, impressive. Will you show it to me? I would like to put in the coordinates myself.
          HAMMOND
          This way.
[Hammond leads them out all out of the Gate room. Carter and Martouf walk together.]

          MARTOUF
          (To Carter)
I give you my word, I will watch over you father as if he were my own.
          [The Stargate begins dialing.]

          CARTER
          Thank you.
          MARTOUF
I look forward to seeing you again.
          CARTER
          So do I.
[Martouf walks away to stand before the Gate. Jacob approaches his daughter.]

          JACOB
          It's ironic, ain't it?
          CARTER
          What?
          JACOB
I was trying to find you a better assignment and you didn't need it. Now you've found me the best assignment an old soldier could dream up. Thanks, kid.
          CARTER
You're welcome. Do you have to go so soon?
          JACOB
Yeah. I have to go. Apparently, I'm the oldest and wisest among us.
          CARTER
          (amused)
          Oh jeez.
[The Stargate engages. Garshaw enters the Gate room again with O'Neill accompanying her.]

          GARSHAW
There will come a time when the Tok'ra and the people of the Tau'ri will destroy the Goa'uld System Lords.
          O'NEILL
          This'll be a good day.
[Daniel enters the room approaching Garshaw with a Sagan Institute box.]

          DANIEL
          Um…
          [he hands her the box.]

          DANIEL
…this box has a signature in it we can recognise. Just send it through the Gate and we'll know you want to contact us.
          GARSHAW
          Thank you. Come, Selmak.
          [Jacob and Carter embrace warmly.]

          JACOB
          I love you.
          CARTER
          I love you too, Dad.
[They let go, and Jacob turns to O'Neill.]

          JACOB
Selmak says, let me see if I can translate this, don't call us, we'll call you.
[O'Neill smiles. Martouf, Garshaw and Jacob walk up the ramp and enter the wormhole. Carter watches as the Stargate closes and sighs sadly.]

          Sprits

          INT—SGC—GATE ROOM

[They all suddenly appear. Xe-ls turns to walk up the ramp.]

          XE-LS
          T'akaya, destroy this place.
          DANIEL
          Wait! You promised to listen.
          XE-LS
          (mockingly)
What they don't know won't hurt them. Isn't that what your leader said, Colonel? Their word means nothing.
          T'AKAYA
And so would mine…if I were to do as you asked. I have made a promise to this one…so that we could save your life.
          XE-LS
I am listening, but I do not guarantee that your words will sway me from punishing you.
          O'NEILL
          For what?
          XE-LS
For trying to deceive the Salish and steal our ke…and for attempting to destroy the trust and faith between Tonane's people and my own.
          O'NEILL
          (clears his throat)
OK. I give you my word that we'll give up this mining operation.
          T'AKAYA
Even if we could trust you, your superiors will not be swayed by your oath.
          O'NEILL
So, don't take my word. Shut down your Stargate. That way, no one will be able to come to your planet unless you allow it.
[T'akaya and Xe-ls look at each other.]

          T'AKAYA
Star travel is of no use to us. Let us close down the Gate.
          XE-LS
This does not erase the second transgression.
          O'NEILL
What? Exposing who you are to Tonane? You've been posing as gods, for heaven's sake.
          T'AKAYA
Is that what you believe we do? When we removed the Goa'uld from our planet a millennia ago, we adapted our form to those of the Salish spirits so that we could protect and coexist along side them in harmony, without interfering in their natural evolution…and now, because of you, that harmony has been broken.
          XE-LS
In time, they will fear us, and use the ke we scatter through the rivers and forge weapons against us.
          DANIEL
No. The Salish people you so honor, came from this world. Even now they value the natural world far more than technology. Trust them.
          O'NEILL
If you really do respect Tonane's people, you shouldn't be posing as their spirits. Trust them.
          T'AKAYA
Our friend, Tonane, is wise. And so is our friend, Jack.
          XE-LS
          So he is.
[Xe-ls bangs his hands together again and Tonane reappears.]

          O'NEILL
          Tonane…Xe-ls. Xe-ls…Tonane.
          TONANE
          So, you're Xe-ls?
          T'AKAYA
And I am T'akaya. We are honored by the names your forefathers have given us.
          XE-LS
You view us now in our true form…but this is only one of many forms we can take. Our friends from this world call us aliens. You call us spirits. From now on, Tonane, you and your people may view us in the form which pleases you best.
          TONANE
You have always been kind to my people. So, whatever makes you happy.
          T'AKAYA
I think this form makes us happy.
          [The Gate begins d ialingout.]

          TONANE
Does this mean I can go home now?
          O'NEILL
          Uh…yeah, I think it does.
          TONANE
          (takes O'Neill's hand)
          Goodbye, Jack.
[The Gate opens and Tonane walks up the ramp.]

          DANIEL
Oh, wait! Um, what about our friends?
          T'AKAYA
Your friends are right beside you, Daniel.
[Xe-ls thumps his hands together and everyone appears back in the Gate room.]

          HAMMOND
          (confused)
          Colonel O'Neill?
[O'Neill watches as all the spirits and Tonane enter the wormhole.]

          O'NEILL
Um…I'll explain it all later, sir.
[Hammond nods his consent and turns to see Tonane before he enters the Gate. O'Neill waves and Tonane walks into the circle of water.]

          Touchstone

          INT—STORAGE FACILITY AT AREA 51

[Two men are welding an iris in place. Major Reynolds and Colonel Maybourne are standing beside the crate. SG-1 along with General Hammond are standing a little ways back. O'Neill approaches to Maybourne taking off his sunglasses.

          O'NEILL
This put you out of a job, Maybourne?
          MAYBOURNE
          (smugly)
Oh! You'd be surprised. Strange things happen in high places, Colonel.
          O'NEILL
          Don't I know it.
          MAYBOURNE
People get reassigned. So does property. Artifacts get misplaced, orders change. Every day's a new day.
          [Maybourne walks away smugly.]

          A Matter of Time

          INT—SGC INFIRMARY

[White fades to an overhead light over an infirmary bed. Monitors beep as Fraiser moves the light out of the way and Daniel joins Fraiser by O'Neill's bedside as he is finally awake. A bandage is in place on O'Neill's neck where the glass cut him. Daniel is self-hugging. Carter and Hammond move in behind Daniel.]

          DANIEL
          (Concerned and solemn)
Hey, Jack. Did I miss anything?
          [Teal'c joins them, too.]

          O'NEILL
          (weakly)
          I made it.
          HAMMOND
We all made it, thanks to you and Captain Carter.
          O'NEILL
          How?
          CARTER
Teal'c managed to pull you far enough away from the bomb before it went off.
          O'NEILL
          (To Teal'c)
          Thanks.
          TEAL'C
          You are welcome.
          CARTER
The majority of the blast energy went right where it was supposed to. The wormhole jumped to P2A-270 and once it did that, we shut it off.
          O'NEILL
          Good thinking, Captain.
          CARTER
          Thank you, sir.
          HAMMOND
A new trinium-strengthened iris is being installed right now. We should be back in business in no time.
          O'NEILL
          What day is it?
[Daniel looks at Carter then back at O'Neill.]

          DANIEL
Well, this might be a little difficult to accept, but since you reported for duty yesterday, two weeks have actually gone by.
          O'NEILL
Two weeks? Think I'll sleep in.
          HAMMOND
          (Smiles warmly)
          You do that.

          The Fifth Race

          INT—SGC—EMBARKATION ROOM

[Daniel and Teal'c are at the base of the ramp as O'Neill approaches them. O'Neill regards them with a slight smile.]

          O'NEILL
          I'm back.
          DANIEL
          What happened?
          TEAL'C
Do you still possess the knowledge of the Ancients?
          O'NEILL
          (sighs)
          Nope. Don't remember a thing.
          (to Daniel)
But you know that meaning of life stuff?
          [Daniel nods slightly.]

          O'NEILL
I think we're going to be all right.
          [O'Neill smiles at his friends.]

          Serpent's Song

          INT—SGC—CONTROL ROOM

[Martouf types something in the keyboard at the Command console. Carter is standing by the console, as are Daniel, O'Neill, and Hammond. Martouf's Tok'ra companions are waiting at the base of the ramp.]

          MARTOUF
These are the coordinates we would like you send us.
          CARTER
But not to anywhere we'll be able to find you again.
          MARTOUF
To contact us, you may use this.
[He hands her a communications device.]

          DANIEL
That's Tollan. They used it to contact the Nox.
          MARTOUF
Yes, we are friends of the Tollan, and we are friends of the Tau'ri.
          CARTER
          Thank you.
          O'NEILL
Well, if we're going to be friends, you're going to need one of these.
          [He hands Martouf a GDO.]

          O'NEILL
It's called a G D O. It sends out a signal that let's us know who you are and if it's ok to open the iris. Otherwise, you could end up splattered against the…well…
          MARTOUF
          (smiling)
          I understand.
          CARTER
Come on. I'll show you how it works.
[Carter and Martouf go down to the Gate room.]

          HAMMOND
All right. Let's send them home people.
[The Gate spins into action, and O'Neill looks on from the control room, contemplatively.]

            Holiday

            INT—SGC INFIRMARY

            TEAL'C/O'NEILL
            What's going on, Captain?
            CARTER
I think I may have come up with a solution to this whole mess.
            TEAL'C/O'NEILL
            Finally.
            FRAISER
Well, whatever you're going to do, do it fast.
            CARTER
All right, it's a little complicated, so I need you to do exactly as I say. We're going to have to play a little musical chairs with your bodies. First, Colonel, you and Ma'chello will switch.
            (Teal'c/O'Neill looks doubtful)
            Trust me, Colonel.
[Daniel/Ma'chello and Teal'c/O'Neill grab the handles of the device. The device makes the same transference sound as before.]

            CARTER
            (to Daniel/O'Neill)
            Colonel?
            DANIEL/O'NEILL
            I'm here.
            CARTER
            How do you feel, physically?
            DANIEL/O'NEILL
            Peachy.
            TEAL'C/MA'CHELLO
The transference was successful. Physically we are fine. Please continue, Captain.
            CARTER
            All right.
            (to O'Neill/Teal'c)
Now you and Daniel should switch.
[She pulls the device over to Ma'chello/Daniel's bed. She places his hands on the handle of the device. O'Neill/Teal'c grabs the other handles, and the transference takes place.]

            O'NEILL/DANIEL
Whoa! Whoa, what a dream. What happened?
            CARTER
I don't have time to explain right now, Daniel. Just bear with me.
            O'NEILL/DANIEL
            Okay.
            DANIEL/O'NEILL
            Danny-boy.
[He gestures with a finger for him to walk over]

            O'NEILL/DANIEL
            Jack?
[He walks over to join Daniel/O'Neill]

            TEAL'C/MA'CHELLO
            (to Carter)
I wish I had time to teach you the symbols. In your hands my inventions could go on fighting the Goa'uld.
            CARTER
It's all right, I'll figure it out. Please.
[He grabs the handles, and Ma'chello transfers back into his own body.]

            TEAL'C
I am myself again. Thank you, Captain Carter.
            CARTER
            Any time.
[Fraiser and Carter take Ma'chello's hands off the device. Carter gestures to Daniel/O'Neill and O'Neill/Daniel to come over to the machine.]
            DANIEL/O'NEILL
            (patting O'Neill/Daniel on the shoulder)
            Our turn.
[They grab the handles and exchange bodies.]

            O'NEILL
            Yes, Yes!
            (to Teal'c)
            Shave my head!?
[He pats Teal'c on the belly and face.]

            DANIEL
            I'm back.
            FRAISER
            He's conscious again.
            [Daniel approaches him.]

            MA'CHELLO
            (to Daniel)
            Thank you, for my holiday.
[Ma'chello dies. Fraiser closes his eyes with her hand. She is tearful. She turns off the blaring heart monitor. Everyone looks sad at his death.]

            HAMMOND
            (somberly)
            Welcome back, SG-1.

            One False Step

            EXT—ALIEN VILLAGE—PLANET PJ2-445

[Carter is working on solar-powered panels, while O'Neill watches her progress.]

            CARTER
            Frequency emitters are operational, sir.
[Carter rises from her position and goes over to see Daniel, who is with the aliens.]

            CARTER
Daniel, we should, uh, we should get out of here.
            DANIEL
            (Reluctant)
Well, don't you wanna stay and see if it works?
            CARTER
Yeah, but we can watch from the ridge over there. I have a hunch, and I think we might be in the way.
[Daniel looks at her, then back at the aliens. She looks meaningfully at Daniel, then she and O'Neill move off leaving Daniel with the aliens.]

            DANIEL
            (Raising his hand)
            Goodbye.
[Alien #1 and another alien raise their hands, too. And Daniel joins Teal'c as they follow O'Neill and Carter. Daniel and Teal'c both turn back, raising their hands. Again, the aliens return the gesture. Watching from the ridge, SG-1 stand and wait. Teal'c is watching through binoculars.]

            DANIEL
            (To Carter)
How much longer, do you think?
            CARTER
            I don't know.
            O'NEILL
Care to let us in on this hunch?
            CARTER
            Not yet, sir.
[Viewing the village from the ridge, they see the aliens moving out among the dwellings, the aliens begin singing.]

            TEAL'C
            There.
[He tosses the binoculars to O'Neill, who deftly catches it.]

            TEAL'C
            The plants are growing.
[Daniel looks on, and O'Neill puts the binoculars to his eyes. Through the lenses, he sees the plants start growing.]

            DANIEL
            (To Carter, curiously)
            That was your hunch?
            CARTER
I had a feeling there was some sort of symbiotic relationship between the aliens and the organism. They probably don't even realise it.
            DANIEL
Well, how did you realise it?
[Carter opens her mouth, but doesn't say anything.]

            O'NEILL
            Captain?
            [Carter glances around nervously.]

            CARTER
I…I talk to my plants, OK?
[The team just look at her, but say nothing. Across the expanse, the plants are growing everywhere, bright pink blossoms bursting open at the tops.]

            Show and Tell

            INT—SGC GATE ROOM

[SG-1, Hammond, and Jacob are there. O'Neill's right arm is in a sling.]

            JACOB
            (to Carter)
Keep the TERs. We'll get you more as soon as they become available.
[Charlie and Fraiser enter, Charlie wearing his original clothing. Charlie is crying. O'Neill kneels in front of him.]

            O'NEILL
You know, there's another rule that says it's okay to be sad when you're saying goodbye to a new friend.
            CHARLIE
I wanna stay with you, Jack.
            O'NEILL
Jacob's going to take you to a place where you can get well. I can't do that. But you know what?
            CHARLIE
            What?
            O'NEILL
I'll come visit. You'll come visit. Okay?
            CHARLIE
            I guess.
[Charlie is still crying. O'Neill touches his face and wipes away the tears, then stands up.]

            SELMAK
I warn you, the Reetou are guileful creatures. And you are at the disadvantage of not being able to sense them, as my Jaffa friend and I can.
            CARTER
Well, we've installed the hand scanner, so they can't open the iris at least.
            SELMAK
You are only one, Teal'c. Please be diligent. They will not give up. They will attempt to send more infiltrators.
[Teal'c nods in acknowledgment. The Gate activates.]

            JACOB
            (saying goodbye)
            George.
            CARTER
            Bye, Dad.
            JACOB
            You take care.
            CARTER
            You too.
[Jacob reaches for Charlie's hand. O'Neill is standing with his left arm around Charlie's shoulder and gestures that it's okay to go. Charlie takes Jacob's hand and they walk up the ramp and through the wormhole. O'Neill looks very sad to see him go.]

            1969

            INT—GATE ROOM, PRESENT DAY

[The Gate has already activated, and the camera cuts to the control room.]

            TECHNICIAN
            Incoming traveler, sir.
[Hammond and another technician hurry into the control room, and Hammond goes to the window.]

            TECHNICIAN
            (surprised)
            It's SG-1.
            HAMMOND
            Open the iris.
[He turns and runs out of the control room. Cut to the Stargate as the iris slides open. The bay door slides open and Hammond walks in, just as SG-1 steps through the wormhole. Seeing that they're finally home, O'Neill throws up his hands in relief, pointing both fingers at Hammond.]

            O'NEILL
            Yes!
[He heads down to meet Hammond at the base of the ramp, with the rest of the team behind him.]

            O'NEILL
(snapping off a half-salute to Hammond)
            We're home…
[Behind them, the wormhole shuts off.]

            O'NEILL
…thanks to one sparky young Lieutenant Hammond.
            CARTER
            How did you know, sir?
            HAMMOND
When I was a young lieutenant, I was ordered to escort four people out of Cheyenne Mountain. In the vest pocket of one I found a note with my name on it. Needless to say, I followed its instructions.
            CARTER
But you couldn't have known when to give it to me.
            HAMMOND
No, not until I saw the cut on your hand. Remember when I took your cuffs off.
            CARTER
Then you've been waiting for this to happen.
            HAMMOND
Ever since we met. I almost didn't let you go.
            CARTER
But if you didn't, you would have changed your own history.
[O'Neill simply smiles and shakes his head.]

            HAMMOND
It's going to be a long debriefing, people. We'll start in one hour.
            O'NEILL
            Yes, sir.
            HAMMOND
Oh, by the way, Colonel…with interest, you owe me five hundred thirty-nine dollars and fifty cents.
[Carter and Daniel can't help but grin at that one.]

            O'NEILL
            (smiles)
            Yes, sir.

            Out of Mind

            INT—FALSE SGC, GATEROOM

[Carter, O'Neill and Daniel enter the fake Gateroom.]

            DANIEL
I’ve never seen this place so deserted.
            CARTER
Guess they figure they don’t need to keep up the act if we’re unconscious.
            [O'Neill experimentally kicks the Stargate.]

            O’NEILL
            It’s fake.
[Daniel yanks open a locker, but finds it empty.]

            DANIEL
I don’t understand. Who would have spent enough time in the base to be able to reproduce it in this kind of detail? You don’t think Apophis…
            VOICE
            Silence!
[At the top of the Stargate ramp, the air suddenly shimmers and Hathor appears. She heads down the ramp towards Daniel.]

            O’NEILL
            (as Hathor passes him)
Oh, I was so hoping never to see you again.
[Raully and Trofsky, armed with zats, appear from each of the gate room’s exits, along with a dozen, armed Jaffa. Hathor makes her way down to Daniel and strokes his face.]

            HATHOR
We have indeed missed you, our beloved.
            CARTER
Daniel, don’t let her breathe on you.
            HATHOR
You think that we would go to these lengths if you were not already immune to that organism?
[Carter shoots O'Neill a look, but he simply shrugs. Hathor leaves Daniel and walks lazily around her Jaffa guards. Daniel joins O'Neill and Carter on the Stargate ramp.]

            HATHOR
Do you like our guards? We managed to lure them from the remote outposts of our enemies. We are quietly building our forces before the System Lords even know that we are alive. But doing so is difficult when we have to operate with limited knowledge of the state of the empire.
            [O'Neill holds up his hand.]

            O’NEILL
Let me take a guess, it’s just a wild guess, but that’s where we come in, right?
            CARTER
We know more than you do.
            HATHOR
Perhaps. We are prepared to offer you a life of luxury as servants in our royal court, for sharing information. Deny us…and you will not enjoy the alternative.
[She comes to stand before O'Neill, waiting for an answer.]

            O’NEILL
You know…you really should do something about the breath.
            HATHOR
How do we contact the Asgard so that we might align with their forces?
            O’NEILL
Try Roswell, little place in New Mexico.
            HATHOR
            (moving onto Carter)
What is the sequence of numbers necessary to open the barricade protecting your Stargate?
[When Carter doesn’t answer, Hathor turns away.]

            HATHOR
If you will not give us the information that we desire, we do have another means of retrieving it.
[She snaps her finger and a Jaffa enters the Gateroom, moving to stand before her.]

            HATHOR
An opportunity has presented itself, at a most…fortuitous time.
[She reaches into the Jaffa’s pouch and pulls out a writhing, adult Goa’uld. She holds it out for SG-1 to see.]

            HATHOR
Our friend here is ready for a host. Tell us, which one of you shall it be?

So vote for your three favourites from those above!
