What do you guys think happened to the Serakkin ion propulsion engine that SG-1 recieved in Space race? Do you think now that they have an asgard hyperdrive that they don't need them anymore. Maybe they could incorporate them in a type of smaller new ship about the size of an alkesh that the 303's can hold in their cargo bays...just a thought.

they still use it when they arent useing hyperspace. hyperdrive is for long distence use ion drive is for short distence use like warp drive and impulse engensThor: "You have accessed the ship´s computers."
Jack: "So I can do whatever I want?"
Jack turns off and on the lights of the ship several times.
Thor: "Stop it."
Jack: "oki."

In real life we've had Ion engines since the 50s or so. However we still haven't truly mastered/developed it.
Perhaps we can "tack" as Carter says, on a Space Shuttle and see how that works. I know that its been plugged to a satellite probe like Deep Space 1, but how about testing it on a manned space craft.

perhaps we as fans should design a small escort vessel that could be equipped for diffrent missions....diplomatic outfit, loads of weapons...destroyer and even a cargo vessel.
by using one ship for these roles it save cash on designing each ship 'millitary wise' and also you only need one ship for CGI purpose?!?!

most of the designs ive ever submitted have ion drives, the serakkin tech was the best tech beside the asgard and ancients ive seen, they should be used more and IMO they will be used on future ships of the deadalus range. perhaps even the orion or odysey has them.sigpic
You are the fifth race, your role is clear, if there is any hope in preserving the future it lies with you and your people ~ 8years for those words

no the prommie uses chemical rockets.
i believe the alkesh's use a form of them though, you generally tell if a ship is using them by the blue colour of the engines. the deadalus also doesnt have them.sigpic

A new drive with 10 times the force of the most powerful drives that havent even been built yet has been built, really impressive. Link here.Last edited by knowsfords; 20 January 2006, 02:20 PM.
