I didnt like it too much.
It was a too americanised and he used Tom Baker's Jellybabies. Plus the master was just annoying and not as malicously devilish as the actor who played him previously. (name slips my head for the moment.)

The Master was played by...
Roger Delgado (1971-1973)
Peter Pratt (1976)
Geoffrey Beevers (1981)
Anthony Ainley (1981-1989)
Eric Roberts (1996)

It was too Americanized and messed with the continuity for no good reason. Despite that, I enjoyed it. I still couldn't see them selling that as an American television series. Although, I appreciated the bigger budget.

Paul McGann :) :)
I do like the movie but the 8th Doctor really comes into his own in the Big Finish audios. BBC Radio 7 are airing the stories at the moment so you can listen to them online. Stones of Venice (http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7/listenagain/saturday/) is the current story.

I heard about a book called the 8 doctors where he goes back and has an adventure with each of his previous incarnations.

The TV movie was a bit naff but he seemed a pretty good doctor. I keep meaning to listen to the audios on the radio but I never seem to get round to it.

I have that book !!!
Its the first 8th Doctor Novel and is great. Lets just say the Master who we thought was gone and dusted left a nasty suprise which causes the Doctor too lose his memory. He then has to go and visit each of his past selves to share their memorys and to retain his.
ITs a very good book I reccomend it to anyone who likes reading Doctor Who novels and anyone who liked the eigth Doctor.

Who did he play ??The guy in the morgue. He was watching an old Frankenstein movie, while the Doctor regenerated in the next room. He passed out when the Doctor emerged.

Yep, I think she started to believe, but she should have know somthing when he pulled the camera out of his second heart.A physician or scientist would look toward a more likely explanation or at least require much more evidence before reaching such an extreme conclusion as "the Doctor is an alien".

The human body varies so much between patients and mutations do exist. Grace was interested in trying to explain the Doctor's physiology, but was blocked by management. IMO, that made her character much more realistic and was juxtaposed against the fantasy elements of the story in a way that helped viewers overcome their disbelief.

I would love a DVD release of the movie... but alas I don't see it anytime soonNot in America. It's already out on region 2, but Warner Brothers is producing the region 1 Classic Series and Fox owns the rights to the movie.

I'm ordering the region 2 version of the movie along with the new series Season 1 boxset.

Why can't fox release it?

Deputy-Assistant-Second-Prime
October 19th, 2005, 11:36 AM
Why can't fox release it?Oh, they can.

The problem is economics. They have yet to be convinced that enough demand exists to cover the expense of producing the DVDs for that one movie. It would be different if they owned the series as well. Then they could cover the risk better with the remaining product line.

As it stands,
1.) the movie isn't overwhelmingly popular with the fanbase,
2.) the movie is virtually unknown amongst the general population of the U.S.,
3.) Fox never took the franchise seriously,
4.) Fox never gave the movie a real chance to succeed in the first place.

DVD are cheap to produce, It should cost much to digaize it and put it on a Cd.Well, companies don't just think in strictly supply & demand terms within a single product line. They also compare it against the demand of other DVD titles. Sure, just about any DVD can be profitable, but you want to concentrate production on higher demand titles to maximize profit. Just my opinion.

Perhaps they could use polls to determine what episode will be released next.

I believe they've done some polls before to decide what gets released. I don't know if they still do that.

Okay, the only time we got to see the Eighth Doctor was in this movie which was lame in many ways.

Barring a change in actor & character, what changes would have improved its chances of success?

Lets see for a start make him not half human. Keep some of the companions eg Chang Lee. Perhaps by ending with a to be continued. Who knows .....

Making him heterosexual when he was clearly asexual in the classic series.

The love interest thing ruined it for me.
