    LOTR or Harry Potter?

    Which one do you prefer?

I prefer the LOTR movie to the Harry Potter one, the music is fantastic and I love the battle scenes. The movie itself is also very well done

I haven't read the LOTR books but I'm hoping to get them soon.

LotR hands down. Personally, i can't stand Harry Potter in any shape or form, but that's just me. I don't see what the appeal is, wheras LotR has battles, quality acting, great soundtrack AND the legend that is Ian McKellen!!

Yep. Like comparing a meal & fine wine at a five star restaraunt to a juicy burger, crips fries, and a milkshake. Both are good, both have their place, but one of them is definitely more refined.

              Hmm, I don't know that I agree.
Both deal with the same concepts. Standing your ground against evil.
Even when that evil overpowers you, outmans you. When your death and failure seem certain, standing your ground.
It doesn't matter if you win or lose, it's the mere fact that you can do nothing else but stand, and still call yourself a man(or woman).
I think they both have those core concepts. I also think that a lot of the wonder and childish joy didn't come across in the LOTR movies but did in the HP ones.

ANd people who say they can't stand it haven't read it. There is a reason why it is the best selling book that sold 6 million copies in the first 24 hours you know!!

I'm gonna leave now before I say something terrible.

Would you be saying that if everyone was backing Harry Potter instead of LotR?

                        Harry Potter!

but I don't think you can really compare them.. they're different. I like them both, but haven't read all the LOTR books yet... while I have read all the HP books at least once. (have seen all movies for both, though)

I find that LotR is superior in most ways. The only thing that Harry Potter has over LotR is (in the early HP books, anyway) a sense of fun. Sometimes that's enough for me. But mostly I prefer LotR.
