Now before i tell you my interesting idea ill tel you why i thought of it! I was reading a thread in the Atlantis season two section, it was the discussion about the episode 'Allies' and one of the first things i noticed was that the name of that ancient race poped up, now we all know it, its the Furlings! Now i think there is no dought that all of us have read atleast one thread about wot happened to the Furlings, so i think its about time the writers put an end to the Furling mystery! Now to the idea, its probably a bit farfetchedbut i think it would be rather cool! Why not open up the writing of the epsisode to end the Furling story to the fans as a compatition? the best idea for a story or episode arc gets written into the show! The way i see it we deserve to have atleast go at it, seeing as we the forum readers have to put up with a new post about where the furlings went to every so often! so woth do you guys think? an intersting idea:)? or utter rubish:(?

The episode "Allies" has been written (most likely) and more will be known about it closer to the airing date, and TPTB have sort of wrapped up the Furlings by having them dead on the planet in "Paridise Lost" (Season 6 SG-1) and if i remeber we dont see dead Furlings just skeletons becuase it cost too much to make a dead body of a race we didnt know what it looked like, Yes it would be nice but TPTB most likely have a better idea or are finaly going to reveal the Furlings 8 years after first hearing about them (Torment of Tantalus SG1 S1)

Who Knows??

Allies is being written by one of the best writers Atlantis has. Well, IMO, he's one of the best.

As for "opening up" the field to any fool who happens by random chance to win a contest- or even one who wins some kind of writing competency test... I think it's an appallingly horrible idea. For every "good" fic writer out there are dozens more who can't string sentences together. And being good at writing fics doesn't mean good at writing SCRIPTS. That's an entirely different ballgame and while there are some who play at the idea of writing a fic in script format, 99% of them read exactly like that: a fic written in script format.

There's a different style to writing a script, a different mentality, and plucking someone out of the masses and elevating them to the level of scriptwriter? Well, let's put it this way: if they held a contest for the "common masses" to be a brain surgeon for the day, would you trust YOUR operation in the winner's hands? Or would you prefer someone who actually knows what he's doing? ;)

The idea is a fun one, certainly, and it's cool to think of the possibility of winning, but to actually trust some random fan to write a REAL ep of a REAL show? Thanks but no thanks.

There's no reason that fans can't write fics to solve the "Furling mystery". It's a time-honored tradition to solve things TPTB (of any show) won't touch... and to solve it in a way that satisfies people individually, rather than whatever TPTB deem as best.

Yeh i can see where your comeing from there, some very good points. maybe i was going a bit over the top with the comp thing, didnt realy think it through! But i do think its rather bad that TPTB have just left the Furling story the way it is, including in only one whole episode as the main topic and one or two brief references in other episodes! it doesnt seem to make any sense that the ancients and the asguard have been such prominent characters in the series and the other members of the aliance have barely bin talked about like the furlings and the nox!

well seen as my comp thread has been a bust so far ill lead with something else. It looks like in the show the furlings are most likely all dead on there paradise planet, but there is still the question of their back story, where they came from, what they did after the Ancients left, did they get the plague, and did they ever fight with the Goa'uld or interact with them! any ideas guys?
