Hey! Two Scots birthdays on the same day. :D
Happy birthday sueKay and Sha're!
I know Anubis69, it's not the same without all the Scots around. :( I haven't seen Egeria on here for a good month or two either. http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/aktion/action-smiley-066.gif
Right. It's time for me to head off. G'night!

Yes - it's 4:30 pm - hope you feel better soon. There does seem to be a lot of it around at the moment. Lots of people at work are coughing and spluttering and feeling generally yuck.

Well, i'm resisting the urge to open that but after being spoiled before, and seeing as it's posted in here, i can only assume it has to do with Beckett. If it's what i think, it's baws. But i'm too scared to press that wee button so i'm going to live out my life in blissful ignorance... Potentially flipping a table over in disgust later on.

Hi Guys,
sorry I have been out of the loop again for a wee while. - What was it like meeting Mr McGillion? Did he say anything about visting the UK again in the future?
I am not going to comment on the spoilers, as I have nothing polite to say about it!

I have to say it was great meeting Paul McGillion. I met him at the con and then again at the signing in Edinburgh. It was nice that he remembered me when we met in Edinburgh - but then I did get three photos taken with him at the con.
Although there is a tendency for these sort of things to become a bit like a cattle market, he went out of his way to make people feel special. He had a remark for almost everyone, and it was not just the same remark for all.
He was asked at the con if there was a place that held a special place in his heart or inspired him, and he immediately said Scotland. He said he felt very much at home here, and he loved the history and the culture. He said that again when I met him in Edinburgh.
At the con, it was funny because someone asked him about football and what he thought about England's football team (or something like that) and he made some remark, and then said, and Scotland aren't doing too badly at the moment.
For all that he speaks with a Canadian accent, he seems very much a Scot at heart.

yorkshire sucks
The town im living in atm has about 12 shops that are not charity shops and maybe 4 pubs. Oh and a grand total of one peircing studio, which sucks when i'm trying to find an apprenticeship in one :mckay:
The worst thing is i know all the ones in edinburgh, but i cant afford a flat up there so im stuck down in yorkshire when im not at school

Hmm...can you not try student accomodation?
In Balloch we have about a dozen shops, no tattoo places for miles, two salons, 3 hotels and 3 pubs...the shops are all for tourists, the salons are for rich snobs, the hotels are for tourists and the pubs are a waste of time.
...
I LOVE GLASGOW!

Well colour me officially infamous!
My flu got worse, but I couldn't get to see my GP in order to gain exemption from the exam, so I had to go in for the exam (Balloch to Glasgow by train with the flu)
I was hyperventilating and everything went that funny purple way when you know you're gonna pass out, but I was determined to sit the exam.
Nope...when I tried to ask for a seat near a window, the invigilators told me I was in no fit state to sit the exam and sent me out.
After that I had to trudge up to the Politics department to clear everything up...they were very understanding, though I think I scared my tutor cos he backed away from me when I tried to get his attention :o
Now onto the infamous bit...
I have coursework due in today, so I called up to tell the module leader that I couldn't hand it in on time...I told her what had happened and her response was 'Oh! I heard about you!'
(note the fact that she is in a different faculty, department and school!)
...oh well!
As proof of how ill I've been (though I feel a little better now), I actually let the GP take a blood sample when he came out to the house!

In my family whenever anyone has any kind of flu we do this
1. rest (this is very important)
2. Mint Choclate Chip Icecream (help coat your stomach)
3. Soup... just plain chicken noodle or vegitable beef soup (provides vitamins and nutrients to help fight that flu)
4. after this you should be getting thursty so have some ginger ale (will help to settle your stomach... atleast it does for everyone in my family)
I hope this helps and that you get well soon.

Yup, the episode was okay...

Right then you lot. Who wants to come with me (and maybe a couple of buddys) to see a fantastic band - Hayseed Dixie - play in Glasgow on the 25th of April?
You won't regret it, trust me. I say them play the last time they were in Glasgow, just before Christmas, and it was the best night I'd had in ages. :)

Hullo Master B,
I can confirm I'll be home between 21st and 27th. Dundee and Perth I can get to, Edinburgh and Glasgow are unlikely. - I am at the mercy of public transport, and after 12 hours on a bus up to get home, and another 12 for when I will be coming back to Bristol, I want to be on my feet as much as possible! :beckettanime04:
BruTak
April 11th, 2007, 07:45 PM
Curses, foiled again! I'm likewise at the mercy of public transport... :(
However, by way of compensation, I shall regale you with the tale of what heppened to me up in Perth on Easter Sunday.
As I may have mentioned elsewhere, my friend Nick and his good lady wife Kitty are both members of the St. Andrews Ambulance Association - which basically means that they're first aid qualified to roughly paramedic standards.
Nick's the Divisional Officer for the Perth company of St. Andrews - which basically makes him the local second in command.
I should point out, that all members of the St. Andrews Ambulance Association are unpaid, part time volunteers, and that the organisation relies solely on donations.
The guys had been asked to provide first aid cover for the Perth Road Runners annual half marthon - the "Heaven and Hell" run.
Heaven because the course take you through some beautiful countryside, and Hell because the course is practically uphill all the way until just after mile 11.
So, the four of us - Nick driving, Kitty riding shotgun, and with myself and their colleague Gary in the back of the ambulance - trundled off to Perth Aerodrome (an old WWII era airfield which was now a business/leisure park) where the event's base was.
Leaving Gary and his first aid kitbag at the finish line, we headed off in the ambulance to trail the back markers and generally keep an eye on things.
Things werer pretty uneventful, until about mile 4, when we got a call that one runner needed treatment for a strained hamstring.
Nick applied a coldpack, while Kitty got the gent's name and address etc. for the St. Andrews records.
The runner decided to drop out of the race, and one of the marshals offered to give him a lift back to base.
So, we went on our merry way, stopping occasionally so that Kitty could take some pictures of the scenery. I on the other hand, fired up my laptop (three hour battery life, yay!) and got down to working out some ideas I'd had for one of my fanfics.
I'd been working for maybe 20mins or so (trying to type a story while sitting in the back of a rackety-clackety ambulance is quite an experience, believe me) when things kicked off big time.
A call came through alerting us to a runner who'd collapsed just short of the mile 11 race marshal's station, and seemed in quite a bad way.
On went the blues an' twos!
Down went Nick's booted foot on the gas pedal!
When we got to the marshal's station, sure enough there was the casualty sitting on the ground looking pretty much out of things.
Nick and Kitty soon had him in the back of the ambulance (I just stayed where I was in the wee jump seat, and tried to be as unobtrusive as possible) and started treatment.
I won't go into detail (mostly cos it went right over my head) but the shortform is - the guy had got the date of the run mixed up, had a bit of a night on the town the previous night (two or three bottles of wine), and nothing to eat in the morning. His blood sugar was way down and, frankly, he was lucky to have gotten as far as he did on the run.
We took him back to the airfield, and got hold of his folks and young daughter (who'd come along to watch him run). Nick explained the situation to the family, he'd been given preliminary treatment, but he'd be better off getting checked out in hospital. The guy's dad offered to take him off to Perth Royal Infirmary for further treatment, Kitty went along to keep an eye on the patient and do an official hand over to the hospital staff.
Drama over...
But the tale doesn't end there - Kitty later told me that the patient's dad had wondered "Who was the guy in black? Was he assesing you or something?"
Consider - I was wearing black combat boots, black BDU trousers, a black hooded sweatshirt, a black bandanna and a pair of mirror shades...
"Oh, he's just a colleague of ours who's observing." replied Kitty with a straight face.
So, I am now an acting, unofficial, unqualified member of the Perth company of the St. Andrews Ambulance Association. :D

Yeah, I read that piece in the Post as well. Hmmm...
Okay, this is just me throwing out some mad ideas but -
Option One: Some piece of advanced Ancient technology allows the Atlantis team to clone Casron.
Why do I keep hearing Stan from South Park? "Oh my God, they cloned Carson!"
Option Two: Dr. Carson Beckett MD, "wakes up" in his casket with a blinding headache, a strange buzzing feeling in his skull, and the sudden urge to behead people with a ruddy big sword - "There can be only one!"
Option Three: Dr. McKay keeps seeing Carson wandering around Atlantis - Carson's wearing a white suit - "Only you can see me Rodney, only you..."
Yes folks, it's "McKay and Beckett (Deceased)", or if you're from the US "Our Carson the Ghost".
Option Four: Carson does a "Bobby Ewing" and steps out of Elizabeth's shower, revealing the last half a season to have been just a dream.
Make of that what you will... :D

Well, the interesting thing is, they have said Dr B won't be a ghost / time traveller / parallel reality visitor / hologram etc. It will be Dr B, human, alive, the same character! That's really got me thinking! :beckettanime14:
I am no complianing at what method they use, I'm grateful that Dr B is going to be back, and Mr McGillion will be getting thwe chance to play him again.
By the way Master B - do you go on hillwalking / camping trips? From your story, (which was great by the way) you could be an expedition medical officer!

I reckon that at some point along the way, Beckett was swapped for a clone.
Remember in Vengeance, Michael managed to engineer Super-wraith...What if he'd combined Beckett's DNA with Iratus DNA, made a Beckett Wraith and then given it the retrovirus, before somehow using his telepathy to copy Beckett's consciousness and memories into the Wraith clone

Exactly! It's a bit extreme but you've got to sacrifice someone in front of you for the greater good. I like to think of it as natural selection...
My personal favourite to dodging folk in the street is a witty quip. "Sorry, I don't smoke", "Add me to MySpace", "I don't believe in Charity" etc. etc. etc. (... One of those I haven't used. Try and guess which one, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised! :P)

Well I'm pro-independence, but with it being a minority government I can see certain parties trying to block every piece of legislation.
I'm really annoyed with the Lib Dems at present - the Lib Dems are the fourth party now, and still want to play power games and get the bigger parties to bow to their pressure...I've never liked Nichol Steven. Not one bit.

The Lib-Dems are a pro-unionist party. They will never agree to a coalition unless the SNP drop their independence referendum. They are only sticking by their principles. Oh wait, did the Lib-Dems refuse to enter coalition talks in the previous election? I see the Green party are currently in negotiations with the Nationalists.

The Lib Dems have said all along that Independence isn't an issue, yet they'd deny us the right to make that decision in a supposed 'free' democracy. If they were true to their name they would let people decide if they wanted to be part of the union or if they wanted independence.
And since it isn't an issue...surely they'd have nothing to fear with an independence referendum - the referendum doesn't suddenly mean that the UK breaks up does it.

Yeah I've got piccies - put up a few of them at my deviantart - http://suekay.deviantart.com
more to come in the next few days :)
Nice work Suekay! I always like architecture shots, but its nice they are blended with some of the coastline and the countryside too. The Barcelona City Hall reminds me of the Chambers building on The Royal Mile, or the (Sadly long demolished) Pillars Town hall that existed in Dundee over a century ago. How big was that Girona Cathedral?
sueKay
May 16th, 2007, 02:01 PM
pretty big...maybe about the same size as Glasgow Cathedral, but the square-ish design and it's position (completely covering the top of a steep hill) made it seem really imposing.
Thank you :)

BruTak
June 30th, 2007, 11:13 AM
If memory serves, it was just for the duration of the War. This was in the days when I got the bus too and from Glasgow, rather than the train.
No idea if there's a military presence at Glasgow Airport now though, although the last time I was there (November 2005 - flying to and from London for the Wolf SG-10 convention) I did notice a few members of Glasgow's Finest on patrol armed with H&K MP-5s.

I couldn't believe what I was watching earlier today. It's the first time I've ever seen such an attack take place in Scotland. Made it all the more shocking. I'm just glad that it failed and no one inside the airport got hurt. Apparently, there was a suspect device found at the hospital where one of the men is undergoing treatment for his burns.

News 24 said the guy was wearing an explosive belt - they were suicide bombersYep it was confirmed. I was just reading the BBC Scotland news page and they've added this update:
Chief Constable Willie Rae told a news conference in Glasgow that the suspect at the city's Royal Alexandra Hospital was being treated for severe burns and was in a critical condition.
He confirmed a device had been found on the suspect.
"As a consequence of that, the hospital was partly evacuated until the device was removed and put into a safe area," he said.http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/6257846.stm
I've heard that Prestwick Airport is now under police guard and I would assume the rest of the airports in Scotland would be as well.

Yep, sueKay. Now that a Scot is in number 10, the extremists wanted to deliver a message right into his heartland. I'm just glad they didn't make a good job of it.
I'll say this though, those misguided individuals who took part in the attack will still not make me lash out at the Muslim - Asian community. That's exactly what the Islamic extremists wanted and it plays right into the hands of the knuckle draggers, who will be calling for a safer, whiter Britain.

Politeness cost nothing.
If the extremists want to hit Gordon Brown (*sings* Texture like sun...) in his "back yard", why not bomb Kirkaldy? That's where he's from originally isn't it?
But then again, I suppose Glasgow's easier to find on a map than Kirkaldy...
