I know.
People boycotted SG-1 because of the changes in season nine. To repeat that mistake will only ensure we never see Atlantis' 100th episode.
What did ya buy? I just got some new clothes, shoes, dress pants. Real nice stuff. Everything's got a collar. Not quite as GQ as Ba'al, but I'm getting there. ;)

I was wondering why the record number of users was so high then i checked the front page. That's pish. :( That actually really annoys me. Hopefully the S9 Ori arc is finished in some way. Well, it's been ten years. Ten great years. I'm sorry I waited until season nine before I started watching, but also glad, because it gave me an altogether different perspective from those who'd watched since day one.
SG-1's my favorite show currently airing. I hate to see it go the way my absolute favorite show went, but the Sci-Fi channel is what it is. Sponsers are what they are. Fickle, short-sighted and forgetful.

Maybe I am keeping the glass half full, but I can't believe that SG1 is gone just yet. MGM have been saying Stargate is their strongest franchise after the Bond films, and there must be a network in the States that recognises that potential - especially considering how popular both SG1 and Atlantis are outside America too. If Robert Cooper thinks there is possible hope, then I am not giving up yet!
In the meantime, at least we still have Atlantis. - If nothing else we may get more stories about the backstory of :beckett: telling us about where he is from in Scotland, and what he did prior to turning up in "Rising Part 1" Ever since "Michael"
Potential Spoiler!, Atlantis Season 2 Michael
I have been wondering if the character is from Tayside as that is where Kenmore is, near Aberfeldy and Crieff, or if he had merely had the calendar as a holiday souvenir.
You are right Suekay, - Its a shame that Europe Canada and Australasia are left in the cold on ratings and popularity. :beckettanime12:

Deano, check out the Firefly mini site (http://www.gateworld.net/firefly/) here on GateWorld.
As for the cancellation for Stargate, well, to be honest, I barely batted an eyelash. I could see it was in the cards. I probably would've felt it more if SG-1 had ended with the fishing scene at the end of Moebius.

think cowboy scavengers in space. No job too small sort of thing and a couple of weird passengers. Fugitives on board, Captain Reynolds and his motley crue trying to earn a crust. Dodgy deals and it's funny too. Having been on the loosing side in the war our heroes also try to avoid the winning alliance side who are after a couple of their passengers, and the girl they are after is definately weird, I haven't seen it all yet. Shotguns in space.

Not exactly.
Mostly it's a kind of tariff to exclude foreign competition for Coke and Pepsi within the US. There are some legitimite concerns about what exactly is in the drink because X many people out of Y could have nasty complications from ingredient Z. For the longest time Red Bull and other "energy drinks" weren't allowed by the FDA out of concern, mostly from tourine, that the ingredients could be poisonous.
But like I said, it's mostly a form of tariff.

I've only got CS: Source but my brother had the original from back in the day from HL1... No idea what he did with it though! To answer your question, the game of the year edition of HL2. All these jets are all very nice, but... There's nothing in the world like the sound of a Rolls Royce Merlin engine in full flow - equal part growl and purr, it sends shivers down your spine.

A - No one will bat an eyelash at these strange looking individuals with the curious unit patch.
B - The RAF Police will lift us and chuck us in the glasshouse for wearing non-regulation uniforms and equipment. :S

Sigh, the boys and their toys.
So with the stupid yanks that broadcast Stargate in the states taking a 6 month hiatus, that doesn't affect us does it? We'll still get it normally, well I say normally I've not much of an idea what that is, just got sky. I was stuck on Channel Four's broadcasting back home!
We'll have had the second half of the seasons broadcast way in advance of the States then ay?
Missster.Freeman
September 25th, 2006, 07:42 PM
I don't think the six month hiatus will have much effect here. If anything we (you guys with Sky anyway) should have caught up with the Americans by then, with maybe a break for a month or two. Unless Sky postpones the second half of both seasons until they've been aired on Sci Fi, as I doubt if the channel would allow the broadcasts before the US. You might be lucky and get a new episode a day or week after Sci Fi airs them (did that not happen in previous seasons?)
Channel 4 or 'Tee-Four'. Argh! I hate it and their condescending presenters. And you could sense their indifference every time they introduced SG-1 or Enterprise. I used to watch SG-1 there until I found other methods to see the show.

If you're in a big city, forget about any problems. You can walk through Glasgow and only be bothered by those Subway folk, hari krishnas and on a bad day those folk selling crappy student cards. Apart from that no one pays anyone more than a glance!
I find it kind of liberating. I walk down the high street in my home town and feel like everyone's watching or i have to watch out, but in Glasgow everyone's stuck in their own mind. That's me presonally though.

Well, I was going to say Scotland is harmless but... just last night my sis and her hubby had the CID at their door to tell them they had three windows smashed in on the family car. Apparently, the CID officer told them that a bunch of guys were going around the area taking pot shots at cars and bus stops with some kind of marble gun.
As for Glasgow, yeah it's okay to walk about in the centre of the city during the day. At nights, you have to be a bit more careful. I wouldn't fancy hanging around the housing schemes at night though... there's always some poor bugger getting stabbed. :S
sueKay
September 26th, 2006, 05:36 PM
I think Glasgow city center and west End are okay...east end's a bit iffy as are the peripheral housing schemes.
Scotland gets everything backwards...in other countries it's inner-city crime and problems...with Scotland the problems are on the outskirts!
I think that Glasgow's the best place to start off with if you move over here...it's the biggest city in the middle of a big conurbation. :)

Scotland has a relatively low crime rate and is generally a safe country although Glasgow is classified as one of the most violent cities in Europe due to sectarian differences. Because of the high Glagwegian crime rate the United Nations labelled Scotland as the most dangerous country in the developed world but while this should not be of great concern it is wise to exercise caution and vigilence at all times while visiting Scotland.
Violent crime is a particular problem in inner-city urban areas of Glasgow and parts of Edinburgh. This is also true of most areas of public housing in most Scottish cities. Steer clear of groups of drunks and youths.
It is highly reccommended especially if in Glasgow not to leave the city centre area unless you are going into the West of the city.
When visiting Glasgow, avoid getting involved in the sectarianism that accompanies football. Do not drink in a Rangers or Celtic affiliated bar and be wary if someone asks what football team you support.
So maybe not Glassgow? :S

Don't worry about the reports Descent, Scotland isn't a particularly dangerous place to live. After dark, you do have to be sensible about things, but that's true everywhere nowadays.
I was born near Glasgow and live near Edinburgh, so I won't say which is best. You could always try somewhere more central like Stirling - it really depends which line of work you're looking into.
All the best with the move to Scotland - we are a friendly bunch - honestly.

I am a leaf on the wind. . . . . watch me soa-DEAD!
I liked how sudden it was. I liked Zoe's reaction and I loved when Kaylee asked where Wash was. That's when it really sunk in. With Book, you knew it was coming.
I didn't like that Joss killed Wash off (ditto Book), although I always respect the guts it takes. I liked the suddenness and I loved the moment of stunned silence when Zoe said Wash wasn't coming. I also liked how it increased the suspense that maybe everybody's going to die.
So if they do something similar with Beckett, I won't mind so much.

Even if it is a good death, I'd still be mad at the fact that they killed him. We wouldn't have moments like these anymore:
Dr. Beckett: You have a date, Rodney? With a woman?
McKay: It is simply two adults sharing some friendly...Yes, with a woman!

Hello all!
Right, where do I start?
Ok. Personal safety in Scotland. - Like anyplace else, it has good spots and bad. Although I live in Bristol now, it is similar to Dundee, Edinburgh or Glasgow, there are some parts of the city you would not want to go! Everywhere else you just need to be sensible. (No waving the mobile around or shouting "Look how much money I have got!" when its getting dark!) This also goes for smaller places like Perth, Pitlochry, Blairgowrie, Kirriemuir and St Andrews. (Only been there a few times, but its nice!)
Incidentally, In Edinburgh I can recommend a brilliant Bistro restaurant called Medeterino on Broughton Street. The Stuffed Chicken is particularly good, as are their Mochas! :beckettanime16:
Online names. - I always go by either Thunderbird 2 or Bajor, depending where I am. I have always loved Trek, and I love the philosophy the Thunderbirds characters live by. - Plus TB2 is my favourite Sci Fi vehicle. Always has been! :beckettanime04:
Season 3 Atlantis - Conjectural Spoiler?

Thanks for the tip Thunderbird 2 - I'll give that a try. I don't think I've been there.
Also with all the conjecture about the death of our Scottish doctor, it would be a shame if we lost the Scottish presence on Atlantis, wouldn't it. I hope the rumours are wrong. I don't think Atlantis would be same without our good Dr Beckett.

What you think of this song Misster.freeman? To think this song was put up for a world cup song when Scotland went to the '98 world cup. The droll, pessimistic "Don't Come Home Too Soon" was picked by the SFA. It has to be a really negative song. Oh yeah lads, don't come home too soon. yeah right. What a good message. It's like saying "Don't screw up again guys".
I like the optimistic lyrics of "Pride of a Scottish Nation"..."One day we will rise again to hear the sounds of Glory, fly the flag above our heads, the Lion'll never die! may the Highlands be a treasure to keep for ever more and we will see the pride again and hear the Lion Roar!"
I can imagine the Scotland crowd chanting "one daaaayyy!!!!" in football matches. Can't imagine them signing "Don't Come Home too soon."
