Edinburgh's a gorge city to visit hunny lodsa stuff to see and do :) Plus the shoppings great ;) Just as good as glasgow except it's got a Harvey Nicks if you feel like having a splurge plus just having a walk along princes street with Edinburgh castle right there beside ya is quite an odd but spectacular site :D Hope you get good weather cos then you could sit and have a bite to eat in the gorgeous parks next to the castle although if it's ranning thats a perfect excuss to just duck into a nice wee pub and have a good bevvy

The tour buses are a good idea. They give you a good overview of the city. They will take you passed the Castle, the gardens and the Parliament building, and you can get on and off them when you want.

The Castle is very interesting too. But then I'm a history nut - so that probably explains why I like it.

Inverness Castle's guided tour is hilarious. They get into character, calling all the women and girls 'baggage' and being downright nasty to us. The young lads are called 'drummer boys' and the blokes have to act as if they were soldiers. They really do shout at you, and the accent is old scots from long ago..it's really hard to understand. We visited last year and there were some Americans in the tour...were they shocked or what? I laughed so much it was so bizarre...not what we were expecting at all.

That sounds like fun!! The guide at Edinburgh (certainly the last time I was there) was very interesting, but not quite as bizarre. It was much more conventional.

Me too MY Mum does the same. Mind you copying some of his tricks used to get me into a right lot of bother. Just had a thought, they could set up their own SG team with Colonel Wullie, Major Primrose, Fat Boab(Tealc), and Dr Soapy with wee Eck in charge of dialling the gate. God I think I've finally flipped time to go to bed.

Oor Wullie was to blame for one of the biggest rollickings I got as a kid. Me and my brother decided that we were going to get oursleves a mouse like Wullie's Jeemy. So we went down the pet shop but they didn't have any mice so we settled on a gerbil instead. Well we didn't have anywhere to put it (we were visiting my cousin at the time) so we thought the safest place would my mums handbag....wtf? How stupid were we???? Well you can imagine how the rest of the story went. :D We were allowed to keep Jeemy the gerbil, even me mum warmed to him over time. :)

When my mum had me her friend was so delighted that a little girl had been born after all the boys in the neighbourhood she imagined I'd play with dolls etc. Her bubble was well and truly burst when I asked for a pair of tackety boots so I could make sparks and be just like Wullie!

I have very fond memories of the Broons and Oor Wullie. Every Sunday, up until I was seven, I'd go along to my Uncle's house, which was just a few doors away, and I'd have my Sunday lunch with him, and then I'd sit on his knee and read the Broons or Oor Wullie.

I really missed that when we moved away from him.

When I was able to read, he'd deliberately mis-read things so I'd correct him.

It's funny how so many of us have fond memories of this.

No, Ken passed on the DVD to ask if it could be passed on to Ron Howards assistant so the concierge would have either passed it on to his assistant or not. Whether or not his assistant passed it on if they got it was another story.

Oh all right then, it's Cap'n Dave of the Valiant as the fourth Doctor, myself and a couple of SG-999 guys as UNIT, and our mate big Kev as the Auton.

Basically its my favorite Sci Fi vehicle, and I try to live by the standards it operates by as well as the philosophy of the UFOP, which is tatooed on my left upper arm. Am agnostic, but I believe in certain things.

While I was home I took some snap shots, - Perth, Edinburgh, as well as checking on older ones I have from Dundee. It is nice to have pics of familiar places to hand as I live in England now. Does anyone else have snaps form other parts of the country? (Can we post sensibly small copies in here?)

BruTak
May 25th, 2006, 09:36 AM
Ok, the 100% guaranteed official story behsinf the metallic blue Thunderbird 2 (which I got straight from the very lips of Mr. Gerry Anderson himself) is as follows.

Gerry Anderson had been invited to the Dinky factory to see how the toys based on his series were made. As he passed the line that was painting Thunderbird 2, he noticed that all the toys were being painted a metallic blue colour, rather than the normal olive green.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?!" he exploded, "Thunderbird 2 is green, not blue!"
The Dinky rep seemed rather nonplussed by his guest's outburst, but went on to explain, "Oh don't you worry about that. Blue is a boys colour. Green toys never sell very well for some reason..."
"Have you actually seen Thunderbirds?" enquire Gerry, through gritted teeth.
"Um, no..."
Gerry then showed the rep a pile of publicity bumph from the show. The poor chap quickly realised his error, but the damage had been done, and several hundred metallic blue T-2's had already been packaged and sent for distribution.

And that, my children is why a blue Thunderbird 2 is much more valuable than a regular green one.:cameron:

There's usually a fair bit of daylight left before sunset. I can still get a good run in the time I have. Started at Ayr shore, then up to the mouth of the Doon, and through Rozelle and Bellisle. Headed back up Ayr shore, then along Newton shore and I watched the sun set over Arran. Think it was around 9:30 when it disappeared over the horizon. I never tire of that view. Course, a good one is saying something random like "Sorry, i don't smoke" and seeing their reaction. Then again, it could have the opposite effect and seem like you're encouraging and then they'd try to get you to buy their gouranga bible or some toothpaste for them!

My mate saw a bunch of neds chasing one of thes guys SHOUTING "GOURANGA! GOURANGA! GOURANGA!" at the poor guy.

I ended up in a philosopical discussion with one a few weeks ago. I was saying to him that I was agnostic in that I did not deny a god may exist I just didnt have the faith in one. I said to him that if a god does exist it doesn't mattr what my beliefs are. As long as i live a good life.

I then looked at him like this :mckay: and left.

Wow thank you Anubis. I've just received my fourth block. :) I was going to green you for the braille 102 ;), but I can't 'til I spread it around. :(

Oh hey, I was bombing down the bypass when my eye caught the billboard at Prestwick Airport. It said, "I nicked the cows Irn-Bru so she told the pigs." There was a sheep in the picture. ;) Brilliant stuff. I was laughing my arse off all the way home. :D

Those peeps really get on my wick ya know

Ever been pestered by those Gouranga nutters  I swear the just don't take no for an answer !! i remember 1 time iwas walking up Buchanan street in glasgow on a sweltering hot day carrying heavy bags and about 5 of the buggers acosted me and wouldn't leave me the hell alone :jack_new_anime25: Eejits ;)
Oh, yeah... Been there, done that.

One Sunday at our local Sci-fi group, there was around four of five of us SG-999 types (BDUs, tac-vests, SG-999 unti patches and so on) returning from a sortie in Forbidden Planet, when about a dozen or so "Happy Clappers" appeared from nowhere and started following us. We went into Game for five mins, and they were still waiting for us when we came out...
I suggested seeing if we could get them to follow us back to the Central Hotel where we'd left the *ahem* "toys", just to put the wind up them... :)

Out of idle curiosity, are there any other Scots in here who like me are living awa' fae home? I try to get back to see my folks when time permits, (Bristol is a lot like Dundee in all the right ways, so it is no hardship being here) but it got me wondering how far and wide other Gater Scots have scattered. Is there anyone here who is also in Bristol?

Damn, I guess I am a wee bit homesick! :sheppardanime32:
