Sha're - I sat a set of mock A Levels along with my highers in 5th years and got 3 As and 2Bs...for the higher equivalent, I got 3Bs, a C and a D

so...hmm....when you do the math....

Exactly - Highers aren't an "easy" alternative to A Levels. It used to bug me that the qualifications that I had studied hard to acheive were not given the same weighting as A Levels. And the CSYSs were often unheard of.

So do they still demand more highers for course entry than A Levels?

sueKay
November 25th, 2005, 07:23 PM
yup

speaking of highers...I got an apology letter from the SQA...turns out I had passed my Higher Modern Studies with a B, so I'm pretty happy!

The course at Uni' I originally applied to wanted 2As and 3Bs at higher for 6th year entry, but only 1B and 2Cs at A Level

If I was serious I'd have made it sound more like this post. I don't get it how I can say something funny or flippant and people think I'm serious. So it comes down to age again...why must people assume that because they're older than someone else that they must be better???

And...while the internet is fairly old...it only became the commercial communication tool it is now in 1996...when I was 9 years old...

...so when you do the math...

Guys in kilts are just so hot....you see them all the time here, i'm such a sucker for them. You mentioning playing footy in a kilt reminds me of when my mum worked in a social club, and in '78 when they qualified for the world cup, all the regulars took on the staff in a footy match but everyone was wearing kilts, it was so funny.:D

It's almost expected that i'm gonna cause some trouble round here! What the hell happened to me?! I used to be mild mannered.... :S :D

IMHO, Carling just seems to be quite lifeless. A bit like Fosters. I wouldn't say no, but i'd prefer something else. I'm also rarely exposed to it, most folk i know drink Stella, Cider or Bud. (On the last one: Bah!)

Egeria

Well, you've got plenty of time to sort out a future career...In the meantime (and I know I'm sounding a bit like a parent) stick in at all your subjects, and pick your standard grades carefully. You might completely change your mind about what you want to do in a few years. :)

can I wish you all a great Burns' Night?

I love that this is celebrated, rather than St. Andrew's day - it seems more personal and Scottish, somehow.

(am I allowed to post here, even if I come from somwhere other than Scotland? I have enough Scottish blood in me, apparently - according to Mother Clanger - to wear the Lamont tartan. As I do occasionally)

One of my crappy ones. This is basically the view from Greenan Castle of the coastline. You'll probably have to click it to get the full view, i had to shrink it down so i could get it on imageshack and unfortunately it loses a lot of it's detail.

Aye, there used to be a maternity hospital there, can't remember when it closed, must've been just after I was born. My younger sister was born in Irvine.

Apparently, can't remember who it was though, found evidence that contradicts that statement. But generally, i (and a lot of people i know, oddly enough including a lecturer i had *shrugs*) find the same. We're all british till it goes horribly wrong.

Yes sueKay - I noticed that. Great isn't it.

I've noticed over the years that when an English news reported says "England" he means "Britain".

I've noticed that too, but what annoys me more is when people for other countries take of Scotland as a region of England, like Yorkshire. But all in all, I think we've got a lot to thank these people for. It makes us rally round the fact we're Scottish and I think we've got a more definite proud in our nation than many others, probably because we've had to fight to be recognised.

WOO HOO!!!!!!

Okay everyone...I've had a wee idea (yup...really!)

Right now...if folks from all over the US can meet up for GW-get togethers, why can't we?

(not as if we live in a very big county :P :D)

So who'd be up for a meet-up in either Edinburgh or Glasgow?

So long as there are as many as, if not more, women than men, sure. Egeria has to come too. She's my favourite.

If it was Edinburgh you could count me in. Living in the back of the beyonds here LOL.
And yes Three - Egeria would HAVE to come.

I'm tied up through the summer, but could always do with a trip down south later on in the year. :)

Glasgow's better for me. But if you give me and SG-999 some advance warning - a couple of months say - I'm sure we could turn up en mass.;)

I leave Scotland in a couple of weeks. Best make it soon. Either that or all the ladies meet me now, and then you can do what you like after I'm gone.

Edinburgh would be easier for me, but I could manage Glasgow too.

sueKay
February 20th, 2006, 12:52 PM
Glasgow's very easy for me (I'm in the town everyday)

Edinburgh's manageable for me, but I don't know it at all, so it'd mean dragging my mum along with me!

Okay gang here's some breaking news.

Starfury Conventions - www.starfury.co.uk - will be holding a Firefly/Serenity convention, Serenity4, in Glasgow, this Autumn.

Details are sketchy tus far, but given that this is the first major Sci-Fi con of any kind to come North of the border in quite some time, I think we need to give it our support.

There was a light dusting of snow here, but it's all gone. Must be the salty sea air.

edit: it's bloody brass monkeys here though :D

There wasn't even any snow on the top of Arran yet where i live (early this morning *Shudders*) there was a hail like precipitate on the ground... :S

T'was snowing heavily at about 11 in Glasgow but it melted within a couple of hours or so...

We weren't too bad. It snowed on Friday but it was mostly clear by Friday evening. I right on the River Forth, so it tends to clear here quickly. My Dad, who lives about 6 miles away, still had some snow on Sunday.

I'll send you some hot water bottles Egeria :)

sueKay
March 6th, 2006, 10:27 AM
The good thing about living less than a mile from Loch Lomond, is that all that cold water normally makes it too cold for snow to form.

It was bloody cold in Paris. Thankfully, in less than two weeks I'm off as far South as one might go in this island.
