It's a photo which has been worked on with a computer, it's beautiful but he still looks like he's all smoothed over (hence the plastic remark ).
Perhaps I just prefer a bit of rough?

Just a totally random question that I know doesn't belong here, but you ladies are smart so I thought you might know..How do you get a custom avatar? I have some icons I would love to use, but I only see the Gateworld options? Any thoughts?

You have to have lots and LOTS of posts, ~1800 I believe. Then you can use a custom avatar. A few more options become available at ~800 posts
