The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe (Film)

Anybody else looking forward to the new film incarnation of the book? This is one of my favourite childhood books and I hope they do it well.

Am looking forward to James McAvoy's portrayal of Mr Tumnus as well as Tilda Swinton's version of the White Witch. And Brian Cox for the voice of Aslan is interesting.

I'm liking the look of the centaurs, they are going to be so cool. I'm just hoping for a look at Mr Tumnus, I really want to see what he looks like. The first teaser doesn't give away much.

My favourite part of the book is towards when they return. Nice suprise to see Noah Huntley cast as Peter the Magnificent, I liked him in 28 days later and the Mists of Avalon.

I guess there will be inevitable comparisons to LOTR since they are both filmed in NZ, both being done by WETA and the hordes of dark creatures galavanting about.

I also enjoyed "The Chronicles of Narnia" as a kid. My favorite book was "The Last Battle". (although, I liked all the books) I've seen some of the Narnia production they had on PBS (with the puppetry, and costumes), but it will be interesting to see it with CGI and such. I'll look forward to seeing it, and if it is any good, hopefully they'll do the other books as well.

I've always liked the idea of the filial kings and queens, though it screwed with my head as a child trying to figure out how they would determine the line of succession.

Did any of you see the old The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe film? I'm not sure who put it out or when but I remember it being well done(though I was extremely young then so I didn't really know good quality from bad). The same group also made The Silver Chair and Prince Caspian and the Voyage of the Dawn Treader(I think thats the name).

I think your talking about the ones that were shown on PBS. They were all right for what was probably a low budget production. It would be interesting to see how they would turn out with modern SFX. The old FX, was ok... but no where near as good as now.

I've seen the old one...but that was a long long time ago. It was all right I enjoyed it enough.

I loved the books, and pretty excited about the novel being adapted into a film. I can't really remember the books, since it has been at least ten years since I've read the books. As soon as I finish the series I'm reading now. I'll have to read that one again. Another movie to look forward too.

I'm looking forward to the Lion, Witch and Wardrobe. Not only is it a favorite book from childhood, but Peter Jackson and Weta Digital are making the movie (they brought us Lord of the Rings). Given the amount of dedication to Lord of the Rings, Jackson and Weta will make the Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe a success.

Weta is doing the SFX, but it's not Peter Jackson who is making the movie, he's doing King Kong. The director is Andrew Adamson another Kiwi.

It may be that PBS picked them up from the BBC - as The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, a combination of Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and The Silver Chair were done for the BBC and shown about, ooh, ten years ago it must be.

I only vaguely recall them, because I only watched the first one. The trouble with dramatisations of books that are a fundamental part of your childhood is that you become accustomed to your own image of what's going on - not to mention the Pauline Baynes illustrations.

To this day, I can still recall sitting in my Junior school at the age of seven, hearing my teacher recount the story of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. I don't know why, but it really gripped my imagination. When we moved to another school (having moved to another part of the country) the next year, I joined the Puffin Club and I ordered the whole lot, one by one every month until I had all seven chronicles.

Even through my teens and twenties, they stayed around - and I eventually replaced them with a new set as they were just too battered and old. For some reason, even though I'm in my thirties, I still feel I should have a full set of Chronicles in the house. That's how big an impact they had on me as a child!

I also have to admit that, once, I sat in the wardrobe in my bedroom, in just the faintest hope...

Not the only one... I checked the back of my closet as well.

The stories the captured my imagination were the intervening years between when the four took their crowns and before they returned through the closet. I like how they grew up and had lives in Narnia. Adds an extra layer to the Horse and his Boy.

                        Same here .

I loved those books when I was a kid; I recently reread them and still loved them. Narnia is such a gorgeous place; I can't wait to see what they do with it visually.

Whoever mentioned Peter Jackson freaked me out for a second though...given HIS track record he'd probably cut out all my favorite parts and replace them with new stuff .

So...the question that has plagued me since my childood: what is Turkish Delight, anyway? Is there chocolate involved?

Personally, I always thought Turkish Delights were some sort of Coffee/Chocolate thing... I'm not a fan of coffee, so I'm not sure how well I would've liked it... but then it could've been like some sort of thick chocolaty steaming liquid fudge concoction... in my mind it looks good... Mmmm...!

Turkish Delight is little cubes of jelly, usually flavoured with rose water.
I'll be interested to see how the film turns out. I grew up with the BBC adaptation so I can't help but compare it to that.

Wow, I always imagined it would be chocolate . There's a childhood worth of preconceptions out the window... What you describe doesn't seem worth all the fuss to me.

So...it's the blue Jell-o of Narnia?
