I work in a group home from Developmentally Challenged people, and we were watching this episode, and the young lady who doesn't speak much, and likes Jack by the way (she smiles every time she hears the opening credits) suddenly out of the blue yells "Be nice Jack" to the T.V. screen during this part of the episode!!

You would have never thought that Stargate would be a helpful teaching tool eh!!

P.S. I got all the questions right on night on Ancient Egypt on Jeapardy thanks to Stargate :)

I love how the little veins are popping on the side of his forehead. Think his' mad?

Double Jeopardy was on tonight on Scifi. Sometimes our Jack can be a real bast---. I felt so bad for the artificial Jack and the rest of his team. They were just as real as our team and were fixing a wrong done by our team but our Jack just saw them as robots. They were just as much a victim as our team and should have been treated as value members of the SGC. You know the saying to heads are better then one!:D

I've been wondering, does Jack have any siblings? I've started this fic where he has brothers and sisters. I recently watched "Fragile Balance" and it just gave me the impression that he doesn't.

HARLEY: "You're Jack O'Neill's nephew? I didn't know he had a sibling."

YOUNG O'NEILL: "Uh...used to. Uh, yeah...Uncle Jack's been like a father to me. You know, since my folks died."

He fumbles around answering Harley. So what do you all think?

I think my name says exactly how i feel about Jack O'Neill. he was undoubedtly the best character in Stargate, both shows. He was smart (although he liked to act dumb), incredibly loyal (he never left a man behind), incredibly tough, mentally and physically and always funny.

Baal: You dare mock me

O'Neill: Baal, c'mon, you should know ... of course i dare mock you

Gilmor: Is it really wise to provoke him?

How many times did Jack accept a gou'ld snake? No one thought he do that willing, for any reason. A General who in charge of the SGC? Who thought? President is not that far off, if for a good reason-like to keep a moron or a gou'ld out of the office and to save the SGC.

But he never accepted a Gou'ald snake, it was a Tok'ra. There is a slight difference. But as a S/J shipper, I've always felt that he took the Tok'ra because Sam asked him too. I don't think he would have done it for anyone else.

I think if he did, he wouldn't be fumbling around trying to find an answer when asked. He'd just lie, and say he was his own sibling's kid.

Not that at any other point it would be unlikely that he just wouldn't mention a sibling... in CotG Kawalsky didn't know he'd had a kid (which imho was a bit weird, seeing how long Kawalsky knew Jack, but they needed to let the audience know about Charlie, so *shrugs*). And Sam, at least didn't know until Cold Lazarus (which was months after she'd met him). Very, very secretive about his personal life, but he's not that bad a liar.

But favourite Jack O'Neill one liner has to be "What..?" followed by a confused look, especially when you suspect that he actually does get it.

Just a few things on why RDA is the man? It seems when he shows up things just fall into place they make great episodes example I m gonna put this in spoilers since i have seen all of Atlantis except for first strike and the last 4 eps of sg-1.
In the return part 2 he had a medium role but managed to save the Atlantis team and knew the plan "because he seen carter mess around with things over the years." In the shroud he came in and did not miss a beat with the arguments with Daniel Jackson and manged to still hit the ship with carter like in the old days. I'm wondering why when he shows up the unity is there and in past episodes they are like just there to past the time and one more question who has more ran RDA and Beau Bridges. They seem to have two stars but RDA should be a three star general over Beau bridges being home world security and such. In the shroud on earth RDA has two stars and on Odyesses he has one star why? Just a few things to think about.
I put this in spoilers since not everyone has seen the episodes god bless the internet I would put would sites but in the words of Ronion "I don't like to wait." And I m p***ed that SCifi canceled the greatest show on TV. They are gonna do the same to Atlantis by changing the characters they tried it with SG-1 it did not work so if Atlantis makes it past season 5 I will be amazed witch I hope it does that show has huge potential. Just my thoughts feel free to add on them as you see fit.

LTS

Life's Too Short

RDA has mentioned this multiple times. His attitude towards making what, in the end, is entertainment, and how they need to have fun making it, is at the very heart of what makes Stargate unique and enjoyable. Take out the personal charm, wit and plain old fun that RDA infused the show with, and you're stuck with any other old Sci-Fi gibberish.

The others have picked up on this to some extent, but Stargate is ultimately what it is in large part because of RDA.

When RDA (and Jack) are there there is cohesion with the Team. Everyone of the original team have a chemistry that just can't be matched, no matter who they bring in to try and lead. RDA and Jack are the glue that held the show together. Without him, the show is just ..... well it just isn't.

Back on topic: I watched PL last night. I loved how Jack was confident that his team would rescue him. He got about the business of survival. He tried to figure out the reason for the Utopians demise. He found the solution but not before he sucumbed to the effects of the 'arugula' but he is strong. He was able to tell Mayborne to stop eating the stuff. He overcame the effects so that he did not kill Harry but saved his sorry butt. And in the end, compassionately sought for him to be safely settled on another planet. Jack's strength as a man and soldier, his compassion for others, his trust in his team and the Air Force to rescue him is showcased in this episode.

The bonuses are funny Harry and Jack banter AND Jack is way cool, um, HOT, is all his scruffiness!

some great film footage, sound effects,

i think Sam puts in an amazing performance ... she is soooo powerful

Teal'c and all the "eye" expressions

i know it doesn't have Danny ... but it just blew me away the first time i saw it and all 3 kazillion times i have seen it since...

and Jack ... amazing ... his presence on the screen ... it really show cased all of his great atributes ... his strengths ... his brilliance ... he doesn't need his team to be the great leader that he is ... but, he knows a great leader lets his team shine and thus so does he ... he is always amazing at bringing out their strengths ... he knows what they are and uses them ... he doesn't have to make himself look good cause he just does naturally (and no not just good to the eyes ...)

Aw, c'mon keep going on! LOL! This is Jack we're talking about.

You're right, though, he's a leader that brings out the best in his team. He may make the final decisions but they rely upon each other to collaborate in order to find the best alternatives to any problem they may encounter. Jack knows this but sometimes he has to make the very tough decisions that his team mates may not agree with. Jack's decisive. Did I mention HOT, too? Can't leave that attribute out!!

:indeed: *Extremely* easy on the eyes. :D But without the strong character he is he wouldn't be quite as attractive. Excellent point about him examining the alternatives. He may find Daniel a pain, for example, but he doesn't just dismiss his ideas. And Carter may ramble on a bit with her scientific explanations, but he trusts her. He is secure enough to have 2 brilliant people on his team. and he's much smarter than he acts.

Being handsome is a plus but not what drew me to Jack. It was his self sacrifice and willingness to put himself front and center of the danger, to protect his unit and the world. I love "Lost City" but sometimes the reactions of the others gets me real upset. Daniel-"You're a hour late"- Carter- "The faith of the world is in jeopardy and you are in your car finishing a crossword?" I think Jack was dragging his feet because he knew what was coming up and what he would be asked to do- again! It's just so sad and most times the rest of the SG-1 (except Teal'c IMO) do not see the inner Jack but only the personality he projects!

Well, that only proves that Jack is a trained and committed military man. I dont think he likes what he does in "the other side", but he knows it has to be done and he does the jobs, even if it's a dirty one. The team's faith (or lack, thereof) has nothing to do with that. He's the leader of SG-1, he takes full responsibility, and that's another thing I like about Jack. He's a "no compromise" guy, either way.

You got! For some reason, right before Christmas the Samandans were discussing Jack with nothing but a bow (or something like that) as AT had made a comment about RDA in nothing but ski boots and a smile.

Anyway, moving on! Not that I really want to move on from that image. I brought the SG-1 Utlimate Visual Guide by Kathleen Ritter. I just noticed this the other day. They have a picture of Jack's military ID. The image says: Col. O'Neill, Jack. I don't believe I've seen his ID in an episode that says "Jack". I know in Fragile Balance they show his ID as "John". I believe they also show us something in Entity. That bugs me. Just thought I'll let all of you know that that bugs me.

Oh, I think I know what you're talking about. It actually might be one of two things (athough I keep thinking this two things are one in the same unless I read/heard it wrong the first time I heard about it).

From rdanderson.com:
For several days on the set, he has been wearing an elasticized bracelet on his right wrist, a string of small brown beads with tiny Chinese characters engraved on them. He indicates now the memento that returned with him from Tibet. “They’re just some prayer beads,” he explains. “I got several strands that I picked up along the way in different parts along the trek. The people are so open, so trusting, there’s just a prevailing peace about them. They’re adorned with stones and corals and objects of the country, of the landscape. I’m not a jewelry wearer, but these are prayer beads, just cheap things that I got somewhere along the road. I have some necklaces, and dzi beads [pronounced “dzah”], and I had some gifts presented to me in monasteries. So I just put these on, and I brought some home for my daughter Wylie.” He wears the bracelet in a show of support for Tibet. Until now, Jack O’Neill has made a point of tucking them up inside his sleeve when he’s on camera. “I can make it disappear, it comes off easily, but it will have to come off eventually. If they ever catch me saluting like that, I’m dead,” he laughs. However, in episodes since, the Tibetan prayer beads have made a more prominent onscreen appearance.

The second thing I think was his daughter had given him a (yellow?) bracelet and he wore it.

Oh, found this and again at rdanderson.com:
Toward the end of season five, in the episode “Revelations,” for example, Jack O’Neill was seen wearing a yellowish braided bracelet on his right wrist. “Oh, that!” he recalls. “That was a woven piece of twine, basically, that my daughter won at a carnival. I took her to a little kid carnival, and there was a little game that she pitched something, or fished something out of a pond. And she picked this. She knows, or thinks that she knows that my favorite color is yellow or orange, so she got this gold thing for me. And I take it whenever I go on any one of my trips. In fact, Steve, who’s our [Earth River’s] videographer, has a six year old daughter, and Steve and I are quite bonded chums. He flew out from New York, as we were going over to China, he landed in Vancouver, and we met there. I had put on Wylie’s bracelet. Wylie had said, ‘Here, Daddy, take this to China and wear this,’ and so I put it on. And I see Steve at the airport, and he’s wearing something equally as youthful looking, and his daughter had done the same thing for him, had given him something to take to China. ‘Think of me, Daddy,’ that sort of thing. When I came back I just kept it on. I used to wear it around my ankle just as one of those quick little memory pops of my daughter, not that I need them, because she’s a constant thought.”

As for AT, rdanderson.com:

From: morjana
In December 2001, you participated in the USO tour, "Operation Starflight," where you were gifted with the combat bracelet you wore throughout seasons six and seven. Will you be wearing that bracelet again during season eight? Have you had any communication with the group that gave it to you?
Best wishes,
Morjana

Amanda Tapping:
Some. Not that unit in particular, but some of the people over there, definitely, yes. My combat bracelet that I got when I went to the Middle East on the USO tour I wore… I never took it off. So I had it in the shower, and the bath, and they said eventually it would break. And it lasted about two years. It finally just started to shred. But I was very sad. I felt like a part of me had fallen off. It was really weird!

In most of the fics I read, I never get that impression. :P But I never thought he was a heavy drinker, just that he liked beer. Beer as a special ingredient in eggs (I think an episode mentions something like that) and throwing beer on steaks (Threads) tends to give raise to the idea of a heavy drinker.

Well, I've given some thought to what I'd like RDA's next project to be. I realize this may be OT so please give a shout if so.

I'm a fan of John Sandford's mystery-suspense-romance novels. His hero is Detective Lucas Davenport. The setting is the Twin Cities, St. Paul/Minneapolis, Minnesota. Lucas is a handsome, intelligent cop who is not above 'bending' the law to get the bad guys. But, you root for him anyway. He can be hard, harsh, and deadly but he is a father and can love, protect, and nurture his loved ones. Lucas is an entrepreneur and a brilliant video game creator. His games and the business provide him with a large income in addition to his cop salary. So, he lives comfortably but not ostentatiously.

Well, after seeing how RDA plays Colonel Jack O'Neill, I immediately thought of Lucas Davenport. RDA may be a bit mature for the role but if they start production immediately he can get a few good years as this brilliant, sexy detective. He always gets his man. And he does not Kirk women. He is honorable and respectful where women are concerned.

Does this have RDA written all over it?

In most of the fics I read, I never get that impression. :P But I never thought he was a heavy drinker, just that he liked beer. Beer as a special ingredient in eggs (I think an episode mentions something like that) and throwing beer on steaks (Threads) tends to give raise to the idea of a heavy drinker.
Jack knows how to hold his drink. He just likes the simple things of life like: The Simpsons, barbecued steak and a good beer. Nothing wrong with that!

:indeed: :jack: A somewhat related question regarding a line from an episode, I believe the pilot. After Jack brings Daniel back he takes him home and they're drinking beer & Daniel is just about getting loopy on one beer. Jack says something to him about how he can't hold his liquor. Cheap date or something? (and no, not in a slashy way) Anyone know? :daniel:

Beer?? Beer? Did someone mention Beer?

If he likes the G beer he likes the strong heavy beer so I doubt he'd like Miller. He may possibly go for a Heiny as in Heineken, or maybe a Sam Adams. Not that I'm a expert :)

Sam Adams are big in the D.C. area. He's from Minnesota so some Canadian beers like Molson. He stays fit but I don't think he drinks 'lite beers.'

Jack's Beer Bread
3 cups self-rising flour
3 tablespoons sugar
1 can of beer (room temp)

Mix together well flour, sugar, and beer. Dough should be a little bit sticky (may need to add extra beer). Put into greased bread pan. Let double in size (45-50 min). Bake about 50-60 minutes at 375F.

This is a real recipe. Although it's been awhile, I've really baked and enjoyed it. Today, in honor of Jack O'Neill, this recipe is hereafter named: Jack's Beer Bread!

Brats in Beer is a goodin

You mean there's another way to cook brats? Not in my house. :DI believe there's a state law here that brats must be simmered in beer and melted butter (not margarine) after grilling. Honestly, otherwise they're not really brats, are they? And NEVER in the house. 20 below freezing, still grilled outside...

But I digress. What I wanted to share:

I agree. I'm inclined to think he wouldn't want Charlie to go into the military for the reasons mentioned by others. And I think Sara would have been dead set against it. Who wants their child to potentially have to risk his/her life?

On another note, I pulled out my S1 DVD's and watched Brief Candle. In addition to a hot, topless Jack (jckfan fans herself) I loved how the next morning when he had his "hangover" he just walked over to the fountain? and dunked his whole head in. Then he laid there and let his team do their work. Great moment, IMHO.
